Job summary

Allied Instructional in Houston, TX is seeking an entry-level Orientation and Mobility Specialist to join our team of independent contractors. These itinerant specialists work in local school divisions to provide services to students with visual impairments, developing and implementing IEPs and related assessments under educational supervision.

In-person, contractor positions available both full- and part-time.

Qualifications

  • Must hold a Professional Certification and/or licensure in Orientation and Mobility.
  • Experience writing and implementing IEPs.
  • Knowledge of special education regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Ability to work with travel skills for students with blindness or low vision.

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive assessments for school-aged students.

Seeking independent contractors: AIS is looking for certified Orientation and Mobility Specialists in Texas to join our team of independent contractors. These Specialists are itinerant and work in local school divisions to provide quality services to students with visual impairments and blindness. Full and part-time in-person positions available! The Orientation and Mobility Specialist serves as a member of a student’s educational team, providing comprehensive assessments and related services to school-aged students. The Orientation and Mobility Specialist assists in developing and implementing IEPs for students with visual impairments. The candidate must possess a working knowledge of assessment and instructional practices, evidence-based research, recommended best practices, and technologies available for low- and high-tech travel, as well as the expected roles and responsibilities of an Orientation and Mobility Specialist within a school environment.

Qualifications
  • Must hold a Professional Certification and/or licensure in Orientation and Mobility
  • Preferred work-related experience as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist
  • Considerable knowledge of special education regulations, policies, and procedures
  • Experience writing and implementing IEPs
  • Experience conducting and writing Orientation and Mobility assessments and recommendations
  • Working knowledge of travel skills for students with blindness or low vision
  • Experience providing consultation and training to teachers and service providers relating to visual impairments
  • Excellent human relations, interpersonal communications, conflict resolution, organizational, and planning skills are required
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the characteristics of individuals with a variety of disabilities, especially visual impairments
  • The ability to recognize and respond to individual student differences
  • The ability to work in a collaborative and cooperative manner with parents, co-workers, school staff, and service providers
