Job summary

Cox Automotive in Dallas, TX is hiring a Lot Operations Specialist I to support vehicle movements, safety checks, and on‑site operations.

You will drive vehicles through auction lanes, arrange vehicles, assist with basic maintenance, and help customers and staff while following all safety procedures. The role has day shifts, no remote work, with hourly base pay between $13.70 and $20.53, plus potential incentive opportunities.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Some driving experience in a work setting is preferred.
  • Ability to perform basic vehicle checks and minor repairs.

Responsibilities

  • Drive vehicles through auction lanes safely on sale days.
  • Move and park vehicles as directed; arrange and locate vehicles as needed.
  • Assist with getting vehicles operating; inflate tires as needed.
  • Jump-start vehicles and notify supervisor when inoperative.
  • Assist customers and coworkers; follow safety procedures at all times.
  • Support safety initiatives and participate in safety activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned; overtime may be required.

Company Cox Automotive - USA Job Family Group Vehicle Operations Job Profile Lot Operations Specialist I Management Level Individual Contributor Flexible Work Option No remote option; must work at a specified Cox location Travel % No Work Shift Day Compensation Hourly base pay rate is $13.70 - $20.53/hour. The hourly base rate may vary within the anticipated range based on factors such as the ultimate location of the position and the selected candidate’s knowledge, skills, and abilities. Position may be eligible for additional compensation that may include commission (annual, monthly, etc.) and/or an incentive program.

Shift Availability: Monday - Friday 7am - 4pm 11am - 8pm

Job Responsibilities
  • Drive vehicles through Auction lanes on sale day in a safe manner.
  • Drive vehicles to and from designated areas on Auction premises and to and from customer dealerships and businesses, while observing Auction driving rules, and rules of the road and demonstrating courtesy and defensive driving principles.
  • Line up and park vehicles in the correct order as directed by the supervisor or team leader, move vehicles as necessary, and locate "lost" vehicles.
  • Assist with getting vehicles operating as needed.
  • Inflate tires and jump‑start vehicles using a battery box and air tank if necessary.
  • Notify the supervisor when a vehicle is inoperative; notify the Service or Gas Truck Driver when the vehicle is out of gas.
  • Assist customers (i.e., dealers, account representatives, rental agencies, etc.) and coworkers as needed.
  • Visibly demonstrate safety commitment by following all safety and health procedures and modeling the behaviors related to such.
  • Actively participate in support of all safety activities aligned with Safety Excellence.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.
  • May be required to work overtime as business needs dictate.
Qualifications
  • Minimum High School Diploma/GED
  • Generally, less than 2 years’ experience in a related field
  • Safe drivers needed; valid driver’s license required.
  • Ability to drive standard and automatic transmission vehicles.
  • Basic mechanical knowledge of identifying (i.e., flat tires, low gas, jump‑starting vehicles.)
  • Preferred 6 months of auction or driving experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of lot operations/lot layout preferred.
  • Knowledge of LDM preferred.
Physical Requirements
  • Required to stand, walk, reach, talk and hear, vision abilities required to include close, distance and color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time.
  • Ability to lift 1-15 pounds.
  • Must be able to walk long distances.
  • Work Environment Constant exposure to outdoor weather conditions. Moderate noise level. (100% outdoors)

To be employed in this role, you’ll need to clear a pre‑employment drug test. Cox Automotive does not currently administer a pre‑employment drug test for marijuana for this position. However, we are a drug‑free workplace, so the possession, use or being under the influence of drugs illegal under federal or state law during work hours, on company property and/or in company vehicles is prohibited.
