What You’ll Do:

  • Maintain control of the institution to provide safety and security for the facility, inmates, staff, and the general public by enforcing rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Supervise and direct inmate activity in assigned areas of the facility/institution.
  • Assure the assigned area is clean, safe, and secure.
  • Monitor and operate security controls, equipment, and computers.
  • Operate automotive vehicles in perimeter security and transport inmates.
  • Conduct inmate counts, security rounds, and searches.
  • Complete required reports and serve on committees.
  • Prevent escapes or incidents which threaten security.
  • When necessary, use physical force, unarmed self‑defense, firearms, or other force to detain or secure inmates.

Newly hired Correction Officer will be hired at step 1 $24.16 and will move to step 2 $24.86 after 6 months of employment. Earn an additional $0.60 per hour working 2nd or 3rd shift.

Qualifications

High school diploma or G.E.D.; must have a valid driver’s license. Positions that include transportation section require a commercial driver’s license or must drive commercial-qualifying vehicles. Applicants must pass the correction officer assessment or have completed it within the past 24 months; existing employees with previous correction officer certification are also eligible. Probationary period is 365 days.
