Job summary

Satcon Technologies is seeking a Mid-Level Looker BI Engineer to translate complex business use cases into robust LookML models and dashboards. You will collaborate with Product, QA, and Engineering, ensuring end-to-end testing and seamless deployments within an AI-enabled workflow.

You will write LookML tests, maintain clear documentation, and leverage Claude Code to accelerate development and refactor queries while driving data quality and governance across projects.

About the Role

We are looking for a proactive, detail-oriented Mid-Level Looker BI Engineer. In this role, you won't just build dashboardsyou will partner directly with Product, QA, and Engineering teams to translate complex business use cases into robust LookML models, perform rigorous end-to-end testing, and drive seamless deployments.

We operate with high agency and leverage cutting-edge tools. You will be expected to use AI coding tools (specifically Claude Code) to accelerate your development workflow, write LookML tests, and maintain clean, precise documentation.

Key Responsibilities

• Looker & LookML Mastery: Design, develop, and maintain complex Looker Explores, LookML models, and executive/operational dashboards.
• Product & QA Partnership: Take full ownership of working with Product Managers, Data Engineers and QA Engineers to clarify requirements, define edge cases, and ensure data models align with product specifications.
• Comprehensive Testing: Conduct thorough developer testing before QA handoff. Write, maintain, and execute automated LookML tests (data assertions) to prevent regressions and safeguard data integrity.
• Proactive Communication: Identify and flag blockers or technical roadblocks immediately. Don't just report issues—actively propose workarounds, action plans, and follow-ups to keep projects moving forward.
• AI-Native Development: Integrate Claude Code into your daily workflow to optimize LookML generation, speed up refactoring, troubleshoot complex queries, and automate documentation.
• Precise Documentation: Maintain clean, structured, and easy-to-read documentation for LookML architectures, metric definitions, explore user guides, and testing protocols.

Required Qualifications

• 3+ years of hands-on experience as a Looker Engineer.
• Advanced LookML Skills: Strong proficiency in writing, refactoring, and optimizing LookML (views, models, explores, liquid syntax, derived tables).
• Dashboard & Visualization Expertise: Proven track record of designing performant, intuitive Looker dashboards tailored to non-technical and technical stakeholders alike.
• Hands-on AI Experience: Active experience using Claude Code (or similar LLM CLI dev tools) for code generation, query optimization, and test creation.
• Strong Testing Mindset: Direct experience writing LookML data tests and conducting structured developer QA.
• SQL Fundamentals: Strong SQL skills (joins, aggregation, window functions, and query performance tuning).
• Ownership & Communication: Exceptional problem-solving skills with a clear track record of proactively flagging risks early and executing creative technical workarounds.

Nice to Have

• Snowflake Experience: Familiarity or prior experience working with Snowflake as the underlying cloud data warehouse.
