Position Details

Reports to: Vice-President of Academic and Student Affairs / Head of School
Hours: Contract, Hourly (Present - Mid-June 2025), with potential for future part-time or full-time employment during summer and fall.

Holy Family Institute (HFI), a 120-year-old Catholic organization, has a proud history of serving children and families in the Pittsburgh region through 15 programs across three counties. We are guided by Catholic Social Teachings and serve individuals of all faiths and backgrounds.

School Overview

Nazareth Prep High School seeks a dynamic, qualified long-term substitute teacher for our Humanities Department for the 2024-2025 school year (present - mid-June 2025). This role offers potential for future employment. The schedule features a rotating block schedule with all classes on the same day, including preparation and lunch periods.

Course Responsibilities
  • Teach one section of AP Human Geography to 9th-grade students, focusing on global patterns, processes, and interactions, integrating relevant literary works to enhance analytical skills.
  • Teach one section of AP World History to 10th-grade students, exploring major historical events and themes, incorporating diverse literary selections to deepen understanding.
  • Teach two sections of AP US History, guiding students through critical analysis of significant US historical periods and events.
General Responsibilities
  • Challenge students with analytical and critical thinking activities that go beyond memorization.
  • Cultivate students' skills as critical readers and writers through engaging activities and assignments.
  • Support students' development into responsible young adults.
  • Prepare students for AP exams, emphasizing skill development alongside learning.
  • Manage classroom dynamics effectively and foster a supportive learning environment.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Social Studies, English, Humanities, or Education (preferred).
  • Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Familiarity with AP curriculum in Human Geography, World History, and US History (preferred).
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to engage and motivate diverse high school learners.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Passion for fostering learning and curiosity.

Additional Requirements
