Job Summary:

The teachers and teacher aides at Prince of Peace Christian School have a profound impact on the lives of their students. When a teacher or aide has a planned or unplanned absence, we rely on a skilled substitute to fill in. We’re currently looking for an engaging, reliable substitute teacher for classes in later to cover a leaveof absence inOctober 2026 through February 2027, approximately 15 weeks.

In this role, the substitute will stand in at full capacityfor theteacher on leave. Adhering to thelesson plans and curriculumensuring that students have a consistent and fulfilling learning experience. The ideal candidate will have substitute-teaching experience and an ability to lead classrooms effectively. We strive to provide a safe, supportive, and Christ-centered environment where children can explore, learn, and grow. The ideal candidate will understand early childhood development, a collaborative spirit, and a commitment to fostering a positive and engaging learning experience for our students.

The teacher is responsible for planning and implementing the program activities according to the Board approved curriculum guides, as to fulfill the Mission Statement of Prince of Peace Christian School, "Providing a Christ-Centered Exemplary Education for Each Child", this Job Description, and any other duties as assigned by the Administration.

Key Responsibilities / Duties:
  • Maintain maximum availability to accept assignments
  • Execute lesson plan consistent with teacher guidelines and school curriculum
  • Establish an orderly classroom environment and provide a positive learning experience
  • Become familiar with school emergency protocols, such as fire drill and lockdown
  • Adhere to all school policies and procedures
  • Follow teacher’s instructions for lesson plan
  • Record attendance according to school procedures
  • Assign homework according to lesson plan
  • Communicate with Principal and parents
  • Supplement lesson plan with other classroom activities, if time allows
  • Maintain discipline in the classroom and foster a safe, productive learning environment in accordance with school policies
  • Compile a report for the teacher that includes student attendance, lesson-plan progress, disciplinary actions, and positive developments
  • Assist in creating a warm and inclusive classroom environment where every child feels valued and supported
  • Help supervise children during free play, outdoor activities, meals, and always ensuring their safety and well-being
  • Foster positive social interactions among children, encouraging teamwork, sharing, and kindness
  • Assist with basic administrative tasks, such as record-keeping, organizing supplies, and maintaining a clean and organized classroom
  • Read and follow all policies and procedures as outlined in the Prince of Peace Christian School Employeeand POPCS Procedure Handbook and Parent/Student Handbook
  • Refer parent questions concerning specific information about children to the classroom teacher or Principal. DO NOT discuss other children with parents
  • If your children attend Prince of Peace Christian School, talk to his/her teacher or administrator if there is a problem, rather than with other parents
  • Be in the school 30 minutes before school starts and in the classroom 5 minutes before students enter the classroom
  • Be in the school up to 30 minutes after the official dismissal time
Preferred Qualifications, Education, and Experience:
  • 21 years of age
  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in education is preferred
  • Certificate or credential for teaching is preferred
  • Previous work experience to show dependability, responsibility, and maturity
  • Experience working with young children in a school or similar educational setting

Physical Requirements
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and sit; use hands to handle or feel, to talk, and to hear
  • The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms and is required to stand and walk
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds
  • Ability to physically tend to students, by sitting, bending, walking with them
Schedule
  • Necessary scheduled onsite operational hours to meet the needs of Prince of Peace Christian School, including additional hours as required/needed to complete tasks and/or projects that are assigned or arise
  • Hours are subject to school need:
    • 7:45 am - 3:45 pm Monday - Friday (Teacher Subs)
