Job summary

PUC Schools is seeking a Long Term Substitute Teacher at PUC Lakeview Charter High School in Sylmar, CA. This temporary, hourly position offers two rates: $30/hr for standard teaching time and $37/hr for planning and grading.

The role requires a Bachelor's degree and California teaching credentials, with a preference for a Master’s in the subject area. The candidate will plan lessons, supervise classrooms, assess student progress, and maintain records.

Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor's degree required.
• Master’s degree in subject matter field or Education strongly preferred.
• Must possess a current California teaching credential in the appropriate field.
• 1+ years of teaching experience.
• Solid knowledge of subject matter and standards.

Responsibilities

• Plan and provide appropriate learning experiences for students
• Supervise students in various school settings
• Assess, monitor, and evaluate student outcomes
• Develop and maintain IATs (lesson plans)
• Provide continual assessment of student progress and maintain records
• Attend and implement professional development training

What you will need to accomplish:

• Plan and provide appropriate learning experiences for students
• Supervise students in a variety of school-related settings
• Assess, monitor, and evaluate student outcomes
• Develop and maintain IATs (lesson plans)
• Provide continual assessment of student progress, maintain student records and portfolios, and complete assigned paperwork in provided time frames
• Attend and implement professional development training throughout the school year
• Communicate and interact with students, parents, staff, and community
• Provide an atmosphere and environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development of students
• Strive to maintain and improve professional competence
• Maintain appropriate records and follow required procedures and practices
• Monitor appropriate use and care of equipment, materials, and facilities
• Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university required
• Master’s degree in subject matter field or Education strongly preferred
• Must possess a current California teaching credential in the appropriate field

Experience

• 1+ years of teaching experience
• Solid knowledge of subject matter, including California State Standards and subject-specific frameworks and assessments

Skills and Abilities

• Knowledge of diversity in society, including diverse abilities, culture, language, ethnicity, and gender orientation
• Proficient with Microsoft Suite: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
• Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)

• Must be flexible and team-oriented
• Able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
• Bilingual in Spanish preferred

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Occasionally required to kneel, climb and reach with hands and arms above shoulder level, lift up to 30 pounds. To bend, sit, stand, squat, stoop, walk, push, pull, and reach with hands and arms at shoulder level or below. Always required to wear the appropriate safety equipment for the task, which may include gloves, goggles, aprons, belts, etc.

Compensation & Benefits:

This is a temporary, hourly position

Hourly substitute teaching rate: $30/hr

Hourly substitute teaching rate for planning and grading: $37/hr
