Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Music or Music Education preferred.

• Personal musicianship and the ability to reinforce musical concepts in an engaging, age-appropriate manner.
• Familiarity with Orff and Kodály methods encouraged.

Job Summary: The Long-Term Substitute Music Teacher is a qualified, collegial educator who brings winsomeness, creativity, and flexibility to supporting Covenant’s music program during the Choral Director’s maternity leave. This teacher is a mature Christian who is passionate about nurturing and inspiring students and enthusiastic about collaborating with a committed team of administrators and teachers to support Covenant’s mission. This position serves in a supporting capacity alongside the music faculty, assisting with instruction, rehearsals, and classroom activities. Covenant welcomes candidates with strengths in early childhood or elementary music education, voice, and/or choral instruction. Specific assignments will be shaped by the successful candidate’s experience and strengths, together with the needs of the music program. Through engaging instruction and thoughtful guidance, this teacher helps foster musical literacy, a love for music, and an understanding of music’s role in God’s creation.

Essential Functions:

• Exhibit the fruit of the Spirit, serving as a Christian role model both in and out of school.
• Set a good example for students, parents, and colleagues in speech, actions, attitude, judgment, dignity, and respect, while living in obedience to God’s Word.
• Support music faculty in providing engaging instruction consistent with Covenant’s classical Christian philosophy of education.
• Assist with music classes and/or choir rehearsals, with grade levels and assignments determined by the teacher’s strengths and program needs.
• Guide individuals, small groups, or sectionals under the direction of the faculty member leading the class or ensemble.
• Help prepare instructional materials, organize rehearsal resources, and facilitate classroom activities.
• Reinforce foundational musical skills, which may include singing, rhythm, movement, listening, music reading, and healthy vocal technique.
• Demonstrate personal musicianship that inspires and engages students.
• Help maintain an orderly, encouraging learning environment, supporting classroom expectations and school policies.
• Adapt thoughtfully to student needs and work cooperatively with faculty to provide continuity throughout the leave period.
• Communicate effectively with the Director of Fine Arts regarding student needs, instructional plans, and daily responsibilities.
• Assist with attendance and other classroom records using school-provided technology, as assigned.
• Participate in relevant music department meetings and planning.
• Display a collaborative and cooperative spirit by supporting the broader goals and initiatives of the Fine Arts Department.
• Serve as a shepherd to each student, advising them in their walk with Jesus Christ.

Minimum Experience and Background:

• Bachelor’s degree in Music, Music Education, or a related field preferred.
• Experience teaching or supporting music instruction for children and/or adolescents.
• Strength in early childhood or elementary music education, voice, and/or choral instruction; candidates need not have experience in every area.
• Personal musicianship and the ability to reinforce musical concepts in an engaging, age-appropriate manner.
• Familiarity with Orff and/or Kodály methods is welcome.
• Experience or interest in classical education and traditional pedagogy.
• Rhetorical excellence in the spoken and written word.

Requirements

Specific Requirements Include:

• Availability to serve approximately late February through the first week of April.
• Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods, lift and carry materials or equipment weighing up to 25–30 pounds, bend, stoop, or kneel to assist students, and actively supervise students during indoor and outdoor activities.
• Willingness to support different grade levels and instructional settings as assignments are established in collaboration with the Director of Fine Arts.
