Job summary

Upper Arlington City Schools is seeking a Long-Term Intervention Specialist Substitute at Upper Arlington High School. The role provides instructional support for special education students, with licensure in K-12; IS Mild/Moderate or Moderate/Intensive, reporting to the Building Principal.

Employment is a substitute position from 9/8/2026 to 10/29/2026. The position emphasizes collaboration, communication, and adherence to Ohio standards while assisting in program design and family

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in education from an accredited college or university.
  • Valid Ohio Special Education Teaching Certificate/License.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and/or Board of Education may find appropriate.

Responsibilities

  • Provide academic, functional, and behavioral instructional support for special education students.
  • Design and implement individualized programming.
  • Communicate regularly with parents and professional staff regarding student needs.
  • Identify and provide instructional materials and strategies to address student competencies.
  • Assist in reviewing 504 Plans and IEPs.
  • Model specific teaching strategies for classroom teachers.

Job Description

Position: Long-Term Intervention Specialist Substitute

Licensure: K-12; IS Mild/Moderate or Moderate/Intensive

Reports to: Building Principal

Employment Status: Substitute (9/8/2026 - 10/29/2026)

FLSA Status: Non-exempt

Salary: Based on qualifications and experience; Employee through the ESCCO

Provide academic, functional, and behavioral instructional support for special education students by designing and implementing individualized programming.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in education from an accredited college or university
  • Valid Ohio Special Education Teaching Certificate/License
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and/or Board of Education may find appropriate
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Ability to work effectively with others
  • Knowledge of the Operating Standards for Ohio's Schools Serving Children with Disabilities
  • Knowledge of FERPA and HIPAA
  • Knowledge of Ohio's Academic Content Standard

Essential Functions:
  • Ensure the safety of students
  • Assists in providing staff development activities related to the modification and adaptation of curriculum and instruction
  • Communicates regularly with parents and professional staff regarding the educational, social, and personal needs of the student
  • Serves as a building resource person to identify and provide instructional materials and strategies that diagnose and respond to individual student competencies and needs
  • Assists the special education student in making an assessment of his/her abilities and in establishing educational and vocational occupational goals in keeping with these abilities
  • Serves as a member of the building intervention assistance teams
  • Provides support for the case managers of students referred to intervention assistance teams, including observations of students
  • Assists in reviewing the implementation of 504 Plans and IEPs
  • Provides modeling of specific teaching strategies for the classroom teacher
  • Provides additional support for classroom teachers through information on research, changes in the law, and speakers on relevant topics
Additional Working Conditions:
  • Occasional interaction among unruly children
  • Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and tissue
  • Occasionally lift, carry, push, and pull various items up to a maximum of 25 pounds, e.g., paper boxes, deliveries of supplies and equipment
  • Occasional travel, e.g., attending a workshop outside of the district
  • Frequently move and position oneself as necessary to access and operate equipment
  • Frequently move around the workspace and travel throughout the school building
