Overview

Job Summary: To provide support by traveling to itinerant locations on a daily basis, coordinating and/or providing academic and social instruction to support the educational programming and physical needs of special education students assigned to Intermediate Unit Programs.

Responsibilities

• Plans curriculum and prepares lessons and other instructional materials according to achievement levels of students.
• Confers with parents, administrators, testing specialists, social workers, and others to develop individualized educational programs for students with varying learning abilities, including educable, trainable, and severely impaired.
• Instructs students in academic subjects using techniques such as phonetics, multisensory learning, and repetition to reinforce learning.
• Instructs students in daily living skills required for independent maintenance and economic self-sufficiency (e.g., hygiene, safety, food preparation).
• Observes, evaluates, and prepares reports on progress of students.
• May meet with parents to provide support and guidance in using community resources.
• Administers and interprets results of ability and achievement tests.
• Provide basic instruction to students in accordance with district and IU policy, including: basic academic skills (reading, mathematics, written expression, social studies), activities of daily living (toileting, grooming, personal hygiene), social skills (reciprocal interactions, turn-taking, friendship building), behavior skills (on-task performance, reducing incidents of aggression), and increased communication skills.

Work Experience and Environment

• Position Type/Expected Hours: Full-time, 193-day calendar. Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Hours are dependent on the needs of the districts. Occasional evening and/or weekend work may be required.
• Travel: Yes, 25% of the time.
• Location: US-PA-Warminster; Itinerant Middle County.
• Supervisory Responsibility: May supervise 1 to 4 Paraeducators.
• Work Environment: Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. The noise level is usually moderate. The physical demands include sitting, walking, reaching, and the ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.
