Job summary

Waterloo Elementary in Waterloo, Indiana seeks a long term substitute 2nd shift custodian to maintain a clean, secure school facility under the supervision of school administration. The position runs Monday through Friday with 4-6 hours per day and is estimated to last until December 15, 2026.

Responsibilities include sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, restroom cleaning, dusting, and moving furniture for events; light maintenance and safety procedures will be required.

Qualifications

• High school or trade school diploma preferred.
• Ability to perform moderately to heavy manual activities.
• Safe handling of hazardous chemicals and knowledge of MSDS; capable of establishing cooperative working relationships.

Responsibilities

• Maintain assigned school facility to a clean, orderly, and secure standard per schedule.
• Sweep, mop, vacuum, dust, wash windows, and clean restrooms and locker rooms.
• Move and arrange furniture for events; replace light bulbs and clean fixtures.
• Assist in ground and routine maintenance; report vandalism and assist with security tasks.

Every member of our team is a valuable resource in this pursuit of excellence, and we are currently seeking a long term substitute 2nd shift Custodian at Waterloo Elementary School!

This substitute position is estimated to last until approximately December 15, 2026. The schedule is Monday through Friday, 4-6 hours a day.

What your day will look like:

Under the supervision of the school administration, you will maintain an assigned school facility, group of buildings, or office space in a clean, orderly, and secure manner following a predetermined schedule; and do other related work as required. This will include:

• Sweeping, mopping, stripping, waxing, and sealing floors.
• Vacuuming rugs and carpets.
• Dusting, washing, and polishing furniture and woodwork.
• Emptying and cleaning waste receptacles, including trash barrels.
• You will clean restrooms, locker rooms, and showers.
• Wash windows and walls, polish metalwork, and clean whiteboards.
• Move and arrange furniture and equipment in preparing multipurpose rooms or classrooms for special events or meetings.
• Replace light bulbs and lighting tubes.
• Clean window coverings, such as drapes and blinds.
• Pick up debris from school grounds, walk areas, and the areas adjacent to the school facilities.
• Sweep concrete surfaces adjacent to the school buildings.
• Perform emergency cleanup services resulting from breakage, vandalism, spilling, and illness.
• You may raise and lower flags, and lock and unlock gates, and doors, and set security systems.
• Assist in receiving and distributing supplies and equipment.
• You may occasionally perform routine ground maintenance functions.
• Assist in reporting and preventing facility vandalism.
• Other tasks as assigned by school administration.
