General Definition of Work

The Long-Term Guest Teacher Substitute (non-certified) performs intermediate level work with limited decision-making discretion providing for a safe, orderly, and positive classroom environment in the absence of the regularly assigned teacher. This position is assigned at the building level for the entire school year and fills teacher absences as assigned by the principal.

Monthly Rate: $3,534.96

The normal place of work is on the premises used by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools reserves the right to require you to work at such other place(s) as it may reasonably require from time to time.

Essential Functions

  • Adhere to all state, federal, and local laws, policies, and procedures.
  • Study and follow the curriculum and lesson plan as provided by the absent teacher or the principal.
  • Effectively manage the classroom and provide instruction based on lesson plans aligned to curriculum.
  • Apply various teaching techniques to encourage participation and facilitate learning.
  • Prepare educational materials, such as notes, exercises, and additional resources.
  • Assign classwork and homework.
  • Take attendance according to school policy.
  • Grade students' assignments and provide constructive feedback.
  • Report any incidents regarding students' behavior in and out of the classroom.
  • Report all student injuries, accidents, illnesses, or any breach of the district's Code of Student Conduct to the school administration as soon as possible.
  • Establish and maintain a safe and orderly learning environment.
  • Oversee school equipment and ensure students use it properly.
  • Participate in grade-level meetings, faculty meetings, student intervention teams, and other committees normally assigned to the regular classroom teacher.
  • Complete local, state, or federal surveys and reports accurately and promptly.
  • Create an inclusive environment with positive communication.
  • Perform related work as assigned or required.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Associate degree or two years of higher education equivalent to 48 credit hours.

OR Ability to pass a formal assessment (ACT Workkeys and 96 hours) required.

  • Equivalent combination of experience and education.

Special Requirements

  • Possess and maintain a valid Driver's License or ability to provide own transportation.
  • Travel to school district buildings and professional meetings.
  • Minimum age 21 years old.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions

  • Work requires the occasional exertion of up to ten pounds of force.
  • Work regularly requires exchange of accurate and detailed information through oral and written communication.
  • Constantly operates a computer and other school business equipment.
  • Ability to remain in a stationary position for required meetings/work.
  • Ability to move to other work locations.
  • Visual acuity requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data.
  • Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels.
  • Work occasionally requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions (e.g., recess).
  • Work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g., classroom).
  • Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions.
  • Must be adaptable to performing under mild to high levels of stress.
