UMOM New Day Centers in Phoenix, AZ, seeks a Logistics Warehouse Apprentice to support warehouse, donation, inventory, and delivery operations while gaining hands-on experience in warehousing and nonprofit logistics.

The role is designed for graduates of UMOM's Homegrown Program, offering practical work experience, professional development, and exposure to warehouse operations. This is a safety-sensitive, part-time apprenticeship with a 25–29 hour workweek.

Qualifications

• Must be a graduate of UMOM's Homegrown Program.
• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Basic counting, reading, writing, and math skills required.
• Interest in learning warehouse, logistics, donation management, customer service, and workplace readiness skills.
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions, ask questions when clarification is needed, and receive coaching and feedback.

Responsibilities

• Assist and perform core warehouse functions, including receiving donations, inspecting, and sorting items, stocking, inventory documentation, order preparation, and distribution.
• Assist with donation pickups and deliveries from businesses, private residences, UMOM sites, and community partners under the direction of Logistics leadership.
• Maintain accurate inventory records, donor information, distribution data, labels, bin maps, and storage guides to support efficient warehouse operations and order fulfillment.
• Prepare client, program, and department requests by selecting, staging, loading, and delivering approved items.
• Assist with basic route preparation, including confirming addresses, organizing delivery sequence, preparing paperwork, and checking vehicle readiness.
• Follow established warehouse safety procedures, including safe lifting, material handling, equipment operation, and vehicle safety practices, and operate approved equipment such as pallet jacks, push dollies, carts, and forklifts only after receiving appropriate training and authorization.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of warehouse areas, office space, UMOM vehicles, parking areas, and shared logistics spaces.
• Provide courteous and professional service to donors, clients, staff, volunteers, vendors, and community partners.
• Support UMOM events, donation drives, seasonal distributions, and special projects as needed.
• Notify the appropriate supervisor of safety concerns, damaged items, vehicle or equipment issues, inventory discrepancies, or donor/client service concerns.
• Other duties as assigned are consistent with the purpose and learning goals of the apprenticeship.

About UMOM New Day Centers: Founded in 1964, UMOM is Arizona's largest provider of services for families experiencing homelessness. Our mission is to end family homelessness by restoring hope and rebuilding lives. With an annual operating budget of $20 million dollars, UMOM provides shelter, supportive services, and housing programs to families and individuals experiencing homelessness in Maricopa County. UMOM serves over 15,000 unique individuals across all our services annually, including those families receiving support at the Family Housing Hub, Maricopa County's family coordinated entry system.

Position Description: The Warehouse and Logistics Apprentice supports UMOM's warehouse, donation, inventory, and delivery operations while gaining hands‑on experience in warehousing and logistics. Designed for graduates of UMOM's Homegrown Program, this apprenticeship serves as a bridge to employment by providing practical work experience, professional development, and exposure to warehouse, distribution, and nonprofit operations. Working under supervision, the apprentice applies skills gained through Homegrown while contributing to inventory management, order fulfillment, donor relations, documentation, and warehouse organization. The role supports safe, efficient operation and helps participants build the confidence and experience needed for continued career success.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Computer Skills

• Familiarity with, or ability to learn, basic applications such as Microsoft Word and Outlook for email communication, documentation, and simple recordkeeping.
• Ability or willingness to learn basic inventory, donation tracking, or order documentation tools used by UMOM.

Compliance

• Valid driver's license and ability to meet UMOM driving requirements.
• Valid Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card or ability to obtain one.
• Ability to clear Central Registry Screening from the Department of Child Safety and Adult Protective Services.
• Ability to comply with and pass comprehensive criminal history background check.
• Random drug screenings when required.
• This is a safety-sensitive position.

Physical Activities and Working Conditions

This position is active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, climbing, reaching, and moving throughout the workday. The apprentice may frequently lift, move, and transport items up to and over 75 pounds while following safe lifting practices, including team lifting and use of appropriate tools and equipment. Duties may include regular exposure to outdoor weather conditions, warehouse environments, vehicle loading areas, and moderate to loud noise. Work Schedule: This is a part-time position. The schedule may vary depending on business needs. Hours worked per week are expected to be between 25 and 29 hours.
