Job summary

Xcel Energy is seeking a detail-oriented data stewardship professional to govern material master data in SAP. The role focuses on researching part numbers, validating attributes, and ensuring accurate Material IDs across procurement, inventory, and maintenance workflows.

You will collaborate with Engineering, Supply Chain, and vendors to improve data quality, ensure compliance with governance standards, and support ongoing data governance initiatives.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Research manufacturer part numbers using catalogs, websites, specs, drawings, datasheets, and procurement docs to identify material attributes.
• Analyze and validate material characteristics including dimensions, ratings, materials, specs, certifications, and manufacturer info.
• Determine whether existing Material IDs meet requirements or if new IDs are needed.
• Review manufacturer specs to ensure correct classification, taxonomy, and material group.
• Collaborate with Engineering, Supply Chain, Procurement, Maintenance, Operations, and vendors to obtain missing data.
• Audit and improve material master data quality, identify duplicates, and propose consolidation.
• Maintain supporting documentation and ensure material data is traceable and auditable.
• Support SAP master data governance initiatives and process improvements.
• Provide guidance on material identification and Material ID requirements.
• Extract technical specs from part numbers to create/maintain SAP Material IDs.
• Ensure Material IDs, MPN records, and AMPLs are complete and compliant.

This position is responsible for researching manufacturer part numbers, technical documentation, catalogs, and supplier information to identify and validate material specifications required for the creation, maintenance, and governance of Material IDs within SAP. The ideal candidate ensures that material master data is accurate, complete, standardized, and compliant with company data governance requirements to support procurement, inventory management, maintenance, and operational activities across the organization.

Responsibilities

• Research manufacturer part numbers using vendor catalogs, manufacturer websites, technical specifications, drawings, datasheets, and procurement documentation to identify critical material attributes
• Analyze and validate material characteristics including dimensions, ratings, materials of construction, performance specifications, certifications, and manufacturer information
• Determine whether existing Material IDs meet business requirements or if new Material IDs need to be created
• Review manufacturer specifications to ensure proper classification, taxonomy assignment, and material group selection
• Collaborate with Engineering, Supply Chain, Procurement, Maintenance, Operations, and vendors to obtain missing or unclear technical information
• Audit and improve material master data quality, identify duplicate records, and recommend consolidation opportunities
• Maintain supporting documentation and ensure all material data is traceable, accurate, and auditable
• Support SAP master data governance initiatives and continuous process improvement efforts
• Provide guidance to stakeholders regarding material identification, manufacturer part number management, and Material ID requirements
• Accurately extract technical specifications from manufacturer part numbers to create and maintain SAP Material IDs
• Ensure Material IDs, MPN records, and Approved Manufacturer Parts List records are complete, standardized, and compliant with governance requirements

Skills

Experience

• Experience with SAP Material Master, SAP Material Management, or Master Data Governance processes preferred
• Background in utility, industrial, manufacturing, warehouse, or supply chain environments preferred
• Experience researching spare parts, maintenance materials, electrical components, mechanical equipment, or MRO inventory preferred

Pay Rate Range

19 - 23 USD hourly
