Supervisory Responsibilities: No

Reports to: Director, Operations

Summary / Primary Role

The Logistics Planner serves as the front line for customer load planning. You will coordinate all orders to ship with the appropriate carrier base and at the least total delivered cost. The Logistics Planner demonstrates a continuous move mentality on all routings whenever possible to optimize the value proposition received from Odyssey by the customer and carrier. The Planner will concentrate on planning for maximum productivity and profitability by utilizing Logistics Support Specialists to assist with the administrative functionality required for shipments, including placement of orders, follow up, troubleshooting, scheduling appointments, and maintaining quality control and metrics. The Logistics Planner will take a proactive approach to orders pending, thereby increasing Company profits through more effective carrier routings using carrier system capacity over origin-based units.

What You’ll Do
  • Order Processing & Carrier Coverage
    • Obtain accurate and complete load information from customers for order processing, keeping load templates current, and process all orders in the TMS.
    • Review open orders across all brokers to identify and recommend available carriers, applying knowledge of North American carrier base for the most cost-effective lane routing: obtain carrier pricing as needed and stay current on carrier mergers and market changes.
    • Prioritize spot requests for overflow coverage and emergency shipments, carrying an after-hours cell phone to support time-sensitive coverage needs
    • Keep Non-Conformance Reports current by advising Logistics Support Specialists of issues, assist in reconciling billing issues, and use software tools and follow-up reminders to minimize errors
    • Ensure carrier and customer database information is accurately communicated to systems support staff and assist the Operations Manager with special projects as needed.
  • Customer & Carrier Relationship Management
    • Grow customer base by soliciting referrals and new business from existing accounts and through phone sales, forwarding qualified prospects to the Operations Manager for rapid follow up
    • Cultivate customers through responsiveness and service to secure repeat orders and account growth, monitoring order volumes and trends and proactively alerting customers and management when patterns shift
    • Negotiate competitive rates that meet company profit margin goals while fostering a partner-like relationship with carriers and nurturing a continuous-move mentality to maximize capacity and value.
    • Alert customers to additional charges and secure documented acknowledgement of those charges
What You Bring
  • High School diploma required. Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
  • At least 3 years of transportation experience is strongly preferred, especially in bulk truck operations.
  • Excellent communication skills and professional telephone demeanor.
  • Exceptional knowledge of products handled, specialized equipment, and carrier base used
  • Proficient in Hours of Service (“HOS”) guidelines for efficient load planning
  • Ability to work in a team environment and share daily workload to find synergies between shipments handled among all the Logistics Planners
Benefits

We offer a comprehensive and competitive compensation and benefits package, including:

  • A choice of medical plans with FSA and HSA options
  • Dental Insurance
  • Vision Insurance
  • Company-paid Life and Disability Insurance
  • 401(k) Plan with Company Match

  • Employee Assistance Program
  • Company Health & Wellness Program
