Job summary

Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare in Memphis is seeking a Material Services Associate to manage inventories, enter data for patient billing, and handle shipping, receiving, and mail distribution. Overview

Provides all areas of assigned facility with supplies necessary for optimal patient care. Ensures that all patient care supplies comply with Infection Control guidelines. Tracks and maintains inventory using an automated computer system. Enters data for patient billing. Assumes shipping and receiving, stocking and delivery responsibilities, including distribution and delivery of mail to all areas of Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare. Models appropriate behavior as exemplified in MLH Mission, Vision and Values.

What you will do

• Receive linen at the receiving dock.
• Monitor, inventory, restock inventories in the assigned department, and maintain PAR levels to ensure that adequate inventory of sterile and unsterile supplies is readily available.
• Process returns from customers in a timely manner.
• Fill inventory supply requisitions and deliver supplies.
• Participate in annual physical inventory.
• Receive direct purchase orders.
• Originate purchase order requisitions, place orders and process paperwork.
• Assist the Logistics Coordinator with daily duties.
• Assist visitors in the assigned area and answer the telephone.
• Perform general housekeeping functions.
• Maintain hospital, DNV and other quality control standards with subsequent records of sterilization procedures.
• Ensure safe operation of equipment.
• Maintain equipment and work area.
• Recognize and react appropriately to environmental safety factors.
• Perform quality control checks.
• Utilize and maintain computer‑based inventory control records and system.

Work Experience Requirements

• Ability to perform technical skills as required with disassembly/re‑assembly of instruments.
• Ability to read, write, understand instructions, and perform mathematical calculations commensurate with education/experience.
• Ability to understand principles and implement basic procedures of infection control and aseptic technique.
• Ability to work without close supervision and exercise initiative and independent judgment once technical training has been completed.
• Ability to respond appropriately to emergency or critical situations.
• Good interpersonal skills as required by direct patient contact.
• Must be competent to perform all job functions by the end of orientation.

Physical Demands

The physical activities of this position may include climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, and repetitive motion. Must have good balance and coordination. The physical requirements of this position are heavy work – exerting up to 100lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 50lbs. of force frequently. The Associate is required to have close visual acuity to perform activities such as preparing and analyzing data and figures, transcribing, viewing a computer terminal, or extensive reading. The Associate may also be required to have visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned or to make general observations of facilities or structures.
