Job description

The Logistics Coordinator – Sheet Metal Fabrication is responsible for coordinating the flow of fabricated HVAC sheet metal from the fabrication shop to the field. This position serves as a key communication link between the fabrication shop, project management, purchasing, warehouse/material handling, trucking, and field installation teams.

The Logistics Coordinator ensures that fabricated ductwork and related sheet metal components are properly identified, organized, staged, loaded, and delivered according to project schedules and field installation requirements.

This is a highly collaborative, detail-oriented position that requires the ability to manage multiple projects and changing priorities while maintaining accurate information and clear communication across the organization.

Key Responsibilities
Production & Delivery Coordination
  • Coordinate daily and weekly delivery requirements for fabricated HVAC ductwork and sheet metal.
  • Review project schedules and fabrication priorities to anticipate upcoming delivery needs.
  • Work closely with project managers, field supervisors, and shop personnel to determine what needs to be fabricated, staged, and delivered.
  • Coordinate delivery sequencing so material arrives at the jobsite in an order that supports efficient installation.
  • Monitor the status of fabricated material and communicate potential delays or conflicts before they impact the field.
  • Coordinate with drivers, trucking companies, and internal transportation resources to schedule deliveries.
  • Confirm that loads are complete and properly organized prior to leaving the facility.
Material Identification & Staging
  • Ensure fabricated ductwork and components are properly labeled and identified by project, area, floor, system, or installation sequence.
  • Maintain an organized staging area that allows material to be easily located and loaded.
  • Help establish and maintain standard procedures for tagging, bundling, wrapping, and preparing ductwork for shipment.
  • Identify missing, damaged, or incorrectly fabricated components and coordinate resolution with the appropriate department.
Communication & Coordination
  • Act as a primary point of contact between the fabrication shop and field operations regarding material status and deliveries.
  • Communicate changes in project priorities, delivery requirements, and schedule changes to appropriate personnel.
  • Participate in coordination meetings as needed.
  • Maintain frequent communication with project managers, field supervisors, shop management, purchasing, and transportation personnel.
  • Provide timely updates when fabrication or delivery issues may affect project schedules.
Scheduling & Tracking
  • Maintain delivery schedules for multiple active projects.
  • Track fabricated material from production through staging and delivery.
  • Maintain accurate records of deliveries, outstanding material, and project-specific requirements.
  • Assist in developing daily and weekly shipping plans based on project priorities.
  • Identify opportunities to consolidate deliveries and improve transportation efficiency.
  • Help balance urgent field requests with planned production and delivery schedules.
Qualifications
  • Experience in mechanical construction, HVAC, sheet metal fabrication, construction logistics, warehouse operations, or a related field preferred.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively with both shop and field personnel.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office or similar software.
  • Experience operating or coordinating forklifts, material handling equipment, or loading operations.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment where priorities can change throughout the day.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience in a sheet metal fabrication shop.
  • Knowledge of HVAC ductwork and sheet metal fabrication processes.
  • Ability to read and understand basic construction drawings, ductwork layouts, schedules, or fabrication documentation preferred.
  • Familiarity with construction schedules and project sequencing.
  • OSHA or other relevant construction/safety training.
