Role Summary:

The Logistics Coordinator, working collaboratively with Course Directors and reporting to the Director of Outdoor Adventure, supports the overall operations of the outdoor adventure programs and ensures the course has what it needs in order to meet the needs of students and staff. This role facilities and packs equipment, prepares and drives vehicles, repairs gear, prepares meals for staff and students, and restocks inventory. The workload for the Logistics Coordinator is varied and dynamic, with time spent overnight on course in Fishkill, NY. This position requires both remote work on outdoor courses in NY State and urban adventures in NYC as well as work in the NYC Outward Bound Schools’ headquarters office in Long Island City (Queens).

Essential Functions:

  • Serve as the coordinator for all aspects of the logistics of the outdoor and urban adventure programs with NYC Outward Bound Schools, including ensuring each program has scheduled transportation, has the appropriate equipment, gear, and supplies needed, and has the appropriate amount of food for the duration of the program
  • Work directly with Course Directors and Managers of Outdoor Adventure to plan and assist course logistical functions, including management of gear/food pack out, course transports, and logistical course functions
  • Provide clear, effective, and timely communication to students, Instructors, Course Directors, Managers of OA, and other relevant staff
  • Ability to track expenses and maintain a budget
  • Efficiently manage students, such as with gear issues, when needed
  • Supporting staff on logistical needs, including but not limited to preparing staff meals, coordinating transportation and ensuring gear/supplies are available for outdoor and climbing wall programming
  • Create and adhere to effective organizational systems
  • Plan and prepare delicious and healthy meals for large groups
  • Prepare and maintain food in accordance with safe food handling practices both in and out of the field
  • Attend, participate in, and/or lead outdoor adventure trainings
  • Provide logistical support to the climbing wall program
  • Manage individual incidents and emergent situations to ensure a timely and appropriate response for the safety and health all outdoor adventure participants
  • Prepare all required paperwork, data, and case files for outdoor adventure programs to ensure an ability to capture all course incidents, program reports, continuous learnings, and program impact
  • Drive safely on rough roads
  • Perform other duties as directed

Qualifications:

  • Strong commitment to educational equity for BIPOC youth, diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Demonstrated dedication to our core values of community, courage, equity, integrity, and learning throughout all aspects of their work
  • Able to work effectively with students 12 - 18+ years of age and with students from a variety of backgrounds
  • Able to manage large group sizes and engage students in logistical activities
  • Ability to originate action without instruction, take initiative, and prioritize tasks effectively
  • Flexibility, maturity, and ability to juggle competing priorities
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal; experience and skill in public speaking and presentations
  • Ability to acquire expert knowledge with gear, maintenance, or repair in climbing, backpacking, and rock climbing
  • Unquestionable integrity and ethical standards in leadership
  • Excellent digital literacy skills, including but not limited to Microsoft Office and Google
  • Competent in loading and unloading supplies from vehicles
  • Ability to successfully obtain and maintain necessary certifications for outdoor adventure, upon start of employment and after completing required training
  • Current and valid U.S. driver’s license held for a minimum of the past five (5) years, with the ability to drive, when needed, in the city and to remote locations
  • Successful completion of a NYC Department of Education background check
  • Ability to work long hours, lift up to 50 lbs, and perform physical, outdoor jobs in all weather
  • Ability to work outdoors for up to five days, overnight (i.e., camping), in many weather and temperature conditions
  • Willing to work a flexible schedule that may require early/late days and overnights
