Job summary

Calyx Containers in Salt Lake City is seeking a Logistics Coordinator to own the dock: inbound and outbound pallets, location discipline, and real-time inventory accuracy. About Calyx

Calyx Containers is a 10-year-old packaging company serving the cannabis industry from Salt Lake City. We design, manufacture, and source compliant packaging - rigid containers, flexible packaging, and labels - through a hybrid model that combines our own domestic digital manufacturing facility with an international sourcing and brokering network. This year we launched packOS, our new digital quoting and ordering platform, which is transforming how customers get from artwork to delivered product. We are a manufacturing business, a sourcing business, and now a technology-enabled one - and every one of those three runs through one dock.

The Role

You own the dock. Every pallet that comes in the door, every pallet that goes out, and the record that says where all of it sits and how much of it we actually have. That last part is the real job. Right now the system says one thing and the floor says another. Material gets pulled for a job, part of it comes back, and nobody depletes the difference. The quantity goes wrong, the material availability view goes wrong, and production gets surprised by a stockout it could have seen coming a week earlier. You are the person who closes that gap and then keeps it closed - with a receiving gate that stops material arriving with nowhere to put it, a named location for every position on the floor, receipts closed the day the truck lands, and cycle counts that prove the system matches reality. You will not be starting on a blank floor. We are standing up the pallet position board, the storage location scheme, and the no-position-no-inbound rule right now. You inherit that work in flight, make it real every single day, and extend it. Do this well and the plant finally schedules itself on numbers nobody has to double-check - and this role grows into the materials and inventory function behind it.

What You Own

• Receiving. Every inbound load lands against an open position or it does not get announced. You run the gate, you run the written exception path when a truck has to come anyway, and you make sure the temporary location has an owner and a clear-by date.
• The pallet position board. One square per position, occupied or open, current at the end of every day and photographed every Friday. Unlocated pallets read zero, and you can say so with the count behind it.
• Storage locations and put-away. Every rack bay, floor square and staging lane named, labeled on the floor, and used. Raw material, bareware, work-in-process and finished goods in their zones, sized for where demand is going rather than what happens to be sitting there this month.
• Inventory accuracy in the system of record. Receipts closed the day the pallet lands. Returned rolls and finished cores collected and depleted the same shift they come off the machine. Every active stock carrying a location value, with a count of stocks missing one that reads zero.
• Cycle counts. Run them on the published schedule, publish the accuracy percentage with its denominator, and root-cause the variances instead of adjusting them away.
• Shipping. Outbound staged, verified against the order, loaded, documented, and gone on the date the schedule says. Customer commitments on peak weeks do not slip because the dock was not ready.
• Freight and carriers. Book and track inbound from domestic suppliers and international sourcing partners, outbound to customers, and transfers to and from our outside converting vendors. Flag what expedites are costing us before the invoice does.
• Launch staging. When a multi-state product launch hits, you have the footprint taped, the inbound and hold areas marked, and the crew plan posted before the first pallet arrives.
• Dock paperwork, and no more of it. The dock card and the daily intake log, kept complete. If a new form is the answer, you have to prove the old one was not.
• Automation and AI. This is a role with a lot of counting, reconciling, and writing in it. We expect you to push that work onto tools wherever you can and to bring us the next thing that should not be manual.

Your First 90 Days

• Day 30: You are running the dock unsupervised. Every inbound is announced against an open position, every pallet is located the day it lands, and every outbound ships on its scheduled date. You know what the board says and, more usefully, where the board lies.
• Day 60: Unlocated pallets have read zero for two straight closed weeks. Roll and core depletion happens the same shift, and you can show that number with its denominator. You have brought us your first fix for something nobody anticipated.
• Day 90: You have run a full cycle count, published the accuracy percentage, and explained every variance. The storage scheme is posted, labeled, and actually in use. Production and supply chain have stopped asking whether the number is real.

Who You Are

• Physically organized. A floor you are responsible for looks different within a week, and it stays that way.
• Honest about numbers. “Not captured, because” is an acceptable answer here. An estimate dressed up as a count is not.
• A gate, not a door. The receiving rule works only if you hold it under pressure, and you can hold it without making enemies.
• Someone who finishes. The risk in work like this is never the start. It is the thing that gets stood up and quietly stops being maintained in week six.
• Automation-minded. You would rather remove ten manual touches than get faster at doing them, and you are genuinely excited to use AI tools to get there.
• Bilingual, ideally. Our floor runs in English and Spanish, and being able to brief a crew in both is a real advantage here - for you and for us.
• Comfortable in a company mid-change. New platform, scaling facility, new ways of working. You see that as the interesting part rather than the annoying part.

Requirements

• 2+ years in receiving, shipping, warehouse, inventory control, or materials coordination in a manufacturing, production, or distribution environment.
• Hands‑on experience in an ERP, WMS, or job ticket system. NetSuite or Label Traxx is a strong plus; if you have run something else and learn systems fast, tell us.
• Comfort with numbers and denominators. You can calculate an accuracy rate, explain a variance, and tell the difference between the two.
• Solid Excel or Google Sheets.
• Forklift experience. We will certify you if you are not currently certified.
• Clear written and verbal communication with production, supply chain, carriers, and vendors.
• Comfort using AI tools (Claude, ChatGPT, or similar) in real work - writing a procedure, cleaning up a list, drafting vendor correspondence - or a demonstrated hunger to get there fast.
• Spanish and English fluency strongly preferred.
• A degree is not required. Follow-through is.

Schedule and Work Environment

• Full-time, on‑site, hourly. Monday-Friday, 7:00 AM-3:30 PM, with occasional extra hours during peak inbound and launch weeks.
• Production floor and dock, with daily computer work.
• Regular standing, walking, and forklift operation; lifting up to 50 lbs.

How This Role Is Scoped

This role is the floor side of materials - what arrives, where it goes, what leaves, and whether the record matches - and we mean that as a feature. Purchasing, vendor selection, reorder points, and cost sit with supply chain. Incoming quality inspection and acceptance standards sit with quality. Production scheduling and ship dates sit with the scheduler; you execute against the date, you do not write it. The scope is drawn this way on purpose so one person can own it completely, be visibly excellent at it, and not get pulled in five directions on a busy Tuesday.

Why This Role, Why Now

Calyx just turned ten. We are scaling a domestic manufacturing operation, launching the platform that feeds it, and rebuilding the plant so it measures itself instead of guessing. The dock is where that either holds together or falls apart, and right now it is the single highest‑leverage place in the building to fix.
