POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Position Title: Logistics Coordinator (Flatbed)

Department: Flatbed Division / MML

Location: Eagan, MN

Reports To: Flatbed Manager

SUMMARY OF POSITION:

The Logistics Coordinator (Flatbed) operates in a cradle-to-grave brokerage model, responsible for both developing customer relationships and executing freight from booking through delivery. This role focuses on flatbed and open-deck freight, requiring strong market knowledge, carrier relationships, and the ability to manage complex shipments with unique requirements.

This individual will be responsible for growing and winning new business, securing capacity, negotiating rates, and ensuring seamless execution of shipments. Success in this role requires a high level of ownership, strong communication skills, and the ability to balance sales, operations, and profitability.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Customer Development & Growth

  • Prospect, develop, and manage relationships with shippers requiring flatbed or specialized capacity
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities to grow revenue and lane density
  • Understand customer needs, freight profiles, and service expectations to deliver tailored solutions
  • Maintain consistent communication and act as a trusted partner to customers

Carrier Sourcing & Negotiation

  • Source and secure capacity for flatbed and open-deck freight through carrier outreach and relationship development
  • Negotiate rates with carriers to maximize margin while ensuring service and safety
  • Build and maintain a network of reliable, specialized carriers across key regions and equipment types
  • Prioritize repeat carrier usage to drive consistency and efficiency

Shipment Execution & Ownership

  • Manage shipments from tender through final delivery, including booking, tracking, and issue resolution
  • Coordinate all aspects of flatbed freight, including securement requirements, appointments, and accessorials
  • Ensure accurate and timely updates are communicated to both customers and carriers
  • Take full ownership of freight in transit and resolve issues proactively

Communication & Relationship Management

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for both shippers and carriers throughout the shipment lifecycle
  • Provide proactive updates and maintain transparency around delays, issues, or changes
  • Build strong, long-term relationships with both customers and carrier partners

Profitability & Performance Management

  • Manage pricing and cost decisions to protect and grow margin
  • Balance service expectations with profitability across all shipments
  • Monitor performance trends and adjust strategy as needed to improve results
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & COMPETENCIES:
  • 2+ years of experience in freight brokerage, logistics, or transportation
  • Experience with flatbed, open-deck, or specialized freight preferred
  • Proven ability to prospect and develop customer relationships
  • Strong negotiation and communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple shipments and priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • High level of ownership and accountability from booking through delivery

Preferred Competencies

  • Established network of flatbed carriers or shipper relationships
  • Strong understanding of flatbed equipment types (step deck, RGN, conestoga, etc.)
  • Experience working in a cradle-to-grave brokerage model
  • Familiarity with TMS platforms and freight visibility tools
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with a focus on growth and results
