Job summary

HD Supply is seeking a Transportation Data Analyst to gather disparate data from multiple sources, normalize it, and ensure data integrity for analysis. You will provide consistent, relevant data and guidance on data definitions for analysis across the organization.

This role emphasizes auditing transportation spend, carrier performance, and workflow improvements. You will collaborate with Finance and Accounts Payable, analyze trends, and develop cost analyses to identify opportunities for

Qualifications

  • Typically requires BS/BA in a related discipline.
  • 2–5 years of experience in a related field.
  • MS/MA and generally 2–4 years of experience in a related field; certification may be required in some areas.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as a resource to assigned client in area of expertise.
  • Gathers and compiles raw data; conducts research for industry trends and benchmarks; normalizes data for centralized analysis.
  • Analyzes, reports, makes comparisons to benchmarks, identifies trends, and prepares cost analyses.
  • Defines data definitions and documents data limitations.
  • Prepares spreadsheets for data analysis; creates reports with charts, graphs, and maps; may make presentations.
  • Provides recommendations based on findings and analysis; inputs on policies and procedures.
  • Participates in department and interdepartmental projects.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job description

  • Experience managing freight payables, carrier invoicing, freight audit, claims, or transportation accounting processes.
  • Working knowledge of Transportation Management Systems (TMS) and freight payment workflows.
  • Understanding of LTL, Truckload (TL), and Parcel transportation operations and pricing structures.
  • Experience interpreting carrier pricing agreements, freight rates, accessorial charges, and invoice discrepancies.
  • Knowledge of EDI transactions and electronic freight invoicing processes.
  • Advanced Excel skills with the ability to analyze transportation spend, carrier performance, and freight payment data.
  • SQL experience for reporting, data mining, and basic query development.
  • Experience partnering with Finance, Accounts Payable, carriers, and third-party audit providers.
  • Strong analytical and process improvement mindset with the ability to identify trends, exceptions, and cost-saving opportunities.

Job Summary

  • Prepares spreadsheets for data analysis; prepare reports with charts and graphs, mailing lists, maps and ad hoc requests. May make presentations.
  • Provides recommendations based on findings and analysis. Provides input on policies and procedures.
  • Participate in department and interdepartmental projects.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Nature and Scope
  • Demonstrates skill in data analysis techniques by resolving missing/incomplete information and inconsistencies/anomalies in more complex research/data.
  • Nature of work requires increasing independence; receives guidance only on unusual, complex problems or issues. Work review typically involves periodic review of output by a supervisor and/or direct customers of the process.
  • May provide general guidance/direction to or train junior level support or professional personnel.
Work Environment
  • Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.
  • Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles.
  • No travel required.
Education And Experience
  • Typically requires BS/BA in a related discipline. Generally 2-5 years of experience in a related field OR MS/MA and generally 2-4 years of experience in a related field. Certification is required in some areas.
