Job summary

Hood Industries, Inc. in Beaumont, MS is seeking a motivated Log Scaler to inspect, weigh, measure, and document incoming log loads to ensure quality materials for mill operations.

You will work with log yard staff to maintain safe, efficient material flow and accurate scale tickets. Qualifications include a high school diploma or GED, 6 months to 1 year of relevant experience, basic computer skills with Word/Outlook/Excel, strong math, attention to detail, and reliable attendance including

Qualifications

• High school diploma/GED preferred.
• Six months to one year of related experience or training or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
• Basic computer skills including working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel.
• Ability to accurately enter data into the computer systems and prepare required reports.
• Strong basic mathematical skills.
• Ability to perform and read physical log measurements using a stick scale to measure log diameter.
• Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
• Effective communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy and quality of work.
• Reliable attendance and the ability to work scheduled hours, including Saturdays as required.

Responsibilities

• Safely inspect, weigh, and record data for all trucks and traffic entering the mill site across the scales.
• Monitor log yard safety compliance among truck drivers.
• Ensure scales function properly and perform weekly calibrations.
• Maintain accurate scale tickets and related documentation.
• Prepare and distribute daily reports and scan tickets into the system.
• Coordinate log placement with the Log Loader Operator.
• Communicate professionally with drivers and plant staff.
