Job description

We are seeking an experienced Physician Assistant for a locums ThoracicSurgery position in Boston, MA. This is a night-shift, inpatient-focusedopportunity providing coverage for a thoracic surgery service during atemporary maternity leave. The PA will work primarily with postoperativepatients on the floor, step-down unit, OR recovery, and ICU.

Compensation:

$130- $140 Per Hour

Position Highlights

• Schedule: 2–3 shifts per week
• Shift: 12-hour nights, approximately 6:30 PM–7:00 AM
• Days: Monday–Sunday, based on coverage needs
• Call: No call
• Daily Census: Approximately 15–25 patients per shift
• Practice Setting: Inpatient Thoracic Surgery
• EMR: Not specified

Clinical Responsibilities

The locums PA willfunction as the primary overnight APP for the thoracic surgery service and willprimarily care for postoperative and critically ill patients. Responsibilitiesinclude:

• Rounding onapproximately 15–25 patients per shift
• Managingpatients on the floor, step-down unit, and ICU following surgery
• Evaluating andmanaging postoperative thoracic surgery patients
• Chest tube,Blake drain, and pigtail catheter management
• Patientassessment and treatment planning
• Performingadmissions and H&Ps for patients transferred from other hospitals
• Completing theinitial evaluation of transferred patients, with follow-up by the daytimeteam
• Responding tourgent clinical issues and serving as a potential first responder to codesuntil the appropriate team member arrivesCollaboratingwith the overnight thoracic surgery fellow, who is available as a clinicalresource and can assist during periods of high patient volume

Preferred Clinical Experience

Experience with thefollowing is highly beneficial:

• Chest tube/Blake drain/pigtail management
• Arterial blood gases (ABG)
• Nasogastric tubes (NGT)
• G-tubes and J-tubes/feeding tubes
• Postoperative thoracic surgery care
• ICU and step-down patient management

An overnightthoracic surgery fellow is available as a resource and assists with the ER,rounds, and consultations. The PA may initially respond to urgent events whileawaiting the fellow. A dedicated hospital code team is also available foremergencies.
