Emory Healthcare is seeking an experienced Physician Assistant specializing in surgical first assist to support General Surgery services across Emory Decatur Hospital and Emory Saint Joseph’s Hospital. This role is fully OR-based with no clinic responsibilities and no call expectations at this time. The PA will work alongside high-performing surgical teams, assisting in a wide range of operative cases with a primary focus on General Surgery, while also supporting Orthopedics, OB/GYN, Urology, and Robotics as needed.

Clinical Scope & Responsibilities

• Serve as first assist in the operating room for:
  • General Surgery (highest priority)
  • Orthopedic Surgery
  • OB/GYN Surgery
  • Urology
  • Robotic-assisted procedures
• Participate in 90-110 scheduled non-urgent surgical cases per week across both facilities.
• Support a daily OR census of 10-30 cases.
• Assist surgeons with exposure, retraction, suturing, hemostasis, and procedural efficiency.
• Collaborate closely with the OR team, including surgeons, scrub techs, circulating RNs, and CRNAs.
• Provide high-quality intraoperative care with a focus on safety, precision, and workflow optimization.
• No outpatient clinic responsibilities.
• No call required at this time.
• Flexibility to stay past 5 PM on days when cases run over (occasionally until 6-7 PM).

You will work within a well-coordinated surgical environment that typically includes:

• Attending Surgeon
• Circulating Registered Nurse
• CRNA

The role is strictly OR-based with no inpatient rounding and no clinic duties.

Schedule

• Monday-Friday, 7:30 AM - 4:30 PM
• Occasional later end times depending on case volume

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program
• Current PA licensure in the state of Georgia (or ability to obtain)
• NCCPA certification
• Minimum 1-2 years of surgical assist experience preferred
• Strong proficiency in general surgery first assist techniques
• Experience in orthopedics, OB/GYN, urology, or robotics is highly valued
• Ability to work efficiently in a high-volume OR environment
