Job summary

77 consultants is seeking a board-certified neurosurgeon for weekend coverage at a Level 1 trauma center in Colorado Springs. The role requires on-call duties from Friday 7 AM to Monday 7 AM and completion of EMR training before start.

You will work alongside neurosurgery attendings, APPs, and ICU staff on complex adult and trauma cases. Responsibilities include tumor resections, hemorrhage control, shunt procedures, ICP monitoring, and management of neurocritical conditions.

Qualifications

• Board-certified neurosurgeon with eligibility for Colorado license.
• Competence in spinal instrumentation and trauma neurosurgery procedures.
• ACLS/BLS/ATLS certifications preferred; must obtain during credentialing.

Responsibilities

• Manage adult and trauma neurosurgery cases including tumor resection.
• Perform hemorrhage control, trauma repairs, shunt procedures, ICP monitoring.
• Handle intracranial pressure management and neurocritical care support.
• Conduct lumbar punctures, CSF sampling, EEG interpretation as needed.
• Provide on-call weekend coverage Fri 7 AM–Mon 7 AM with EMR use.

Clinical Responsibilities

Management of adult and trauma neurosurgery cases including:

• Tumor resection
• Hemorrhage control
• Trauma repairs
• Shunt insertion and revision
• Cranial burr hole procedures
• Insertion of intracranial pressure monitors
• Management of intracranial hemorrhages
• Care for traumatic brain injuries and neurocritical conditions
• Ventricular taps/ventriculoperitoneal shunt management
• Lumbar punctures and lumbar drain placements
• CSF sampling from shunts or external ventricular drains
• EEG interpretation
• Intracranial pressure (ICP) and cerebral perfusion pressure (CCP) data management
• Application and management of hypothermia techniques

Facilities and Resources Available

• Fully equipped ORs with specialized neurosurgical instruments

Coverage Reason

Critical Requirements

• Candidates must commit to the full coverage period of Friday 7 AM - Monday 7 AM without exceptions.

EMR Training

• Mandatory training must be accomplished prior to the start date, with no options to test out. Training sessions are held on Tuesdays and Fridays at 8 AM MT.

Shift Description

• Shifts are from Friday 7 AM to Monday 7 AM; coverage required every weekend post-credentialing.

Qualifications

• Board Certification in Neurological Surgery (mandatory)
• Active Colorado Medical License or IMLC with LOQ (mandatory)
• Current ACLS, BLS, ATLS certifications, and DEA registration (highly preferred; must be obtained during credentialing)
• Fellowship training (highly preferred but not obligatory)
• Competence in spinal instrumentation required
• Local or drive-in candidates preferred
• Must disclose availability between January 25, 2027, and April 30, 2027, at the time of presentation (mandatory)
• Must specify the number of shifts per month the provider can commit to (mandatory)
• Acknowledge understanding of and commitment to EMR training requirements to avoid delays in the start date (mandatory)
• Proficiency in all required procedures to be confirmed prior to name clearance (mandatory)
