This is a traveling position requiring 95% travel. The role involves maintaining a fleet of locomotives, based out of Des Moines, IA, with tools and a company truck provided. The position will be based in the Minneapolis, MN area.

No certifications are required, but they will influence the starting wage.

We welcome applicants of all mechanical skill levels—training is available for suitable candidates.

The Role:

This role involves maintaining locomotives to ensure operational reliability and customer service.

Pay:

$20–$30/hr, overtime eligible
Estimated annual earnings: $41K–$62K based on 40 hours/week, with potential for higher earnings with overtime.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform scheduled and emergency maintenance on locomotives, focusing on cost-effective solutions.
  • Communicate with customers about equipment status and repairs.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical issues.
  • Maintain accurate records and handle environmental materials safely.
  • Follow safety procedures and wear PPE.
  • Conduct safety assessments and recommend controls.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Applicants with mechanical aptitude are encouraged; training available. Preferred qualifications include:

  • Associate’s degree or equivalent, or relevant work experience
  • Strong mechanical skills; electrical experience a plus
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Ability to operate cutting torch and electrical welder safely
