Job summary

R.J. Corman Railroad Group in Lexington, KY seeks a Locomotive Systems Installation Technician to travel to various locations for on-site electrical system installations and diagnostics.

You will install equipment, fabricate wiring, perform diagnostics and repairs, adhere to FRA safety rules, and collaborate with mechanics and engineers to ensure reliable locomotive operation. This is a full-time role requiring strong technical knowledge and the ability to work independently at remote sites.

Qualifications

• Proficient knowledge of DC and AC electrical circuits and components.
• Ability to use a multimeter and standard electrical testing functions.
• Ability to read locomotive electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
• Minimum 2+ years of experience with locomotive electrical systems.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and judgment for repairs and replacements.
• Basic computer skills for software-based diagnostic testing.
• Welding and oxygen/acetylene torching knowledge.
• Basic metal fabrication skills preferred.

Responsibilities

• Install locomotive electrical and electronic equipment such as event recorders and cameras.
• Fabricate, route, terminate, label, and secure wiring and harnesses.
• Modify wiring and circuits for system upgrades.
• Safely work with high and low voltage circuits and proper de-energization.
• Diagnose and repair locomotive electrical systems.
• Test and commission installed systems to verify proper operation.
• Maintain accurate installation and parts usage records.
• Respond to emergencies and minimize rail operation disruptions.
• Ensure compliance with FRA regulations and safety rules.
• Coordinate with mechanics and engineers to resolve complex issues.
