• Installs and repairs door closers, panic bars, doorknobs and related locking hardware.
• Oils and adjusts doors and related locks.
• Makes new keys and duplicates keys as needed.
• Sets up numbering system for the duplication of keys according to the locksmith's codebook.
• Maintains records of old and new combinations, instructional materials and catalogs.
• Prepares and maintains required reports, work orders and cost estimates.
• Audits and purchases necessary equipment and supplies including blank keys and locks.
• Coordinates work of locksmith functions.

The Kentucky Department of Corrections (DOC), Division of Adult Institutions operates correctional facilitiesthat house Kentucky's adult inmate population. The mission of DOC is to protect the citizens of theCommonwealth and to provide a safe, secure and humane environment for staff and offenders in carrying out themandates of the legislative and judicial processes; and, to provide opportunities for offenders to acquireskills, which facilitate non-criminal behavior.

The Kentucky Correctional Institution for Women is currently seeking a Locksmith Administrator, which has theprimary responsibility for the development, installation, and maintenance of the lock systems at theinstitution.

Minimum Requirements

EDUCATION: High school graduate.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Four years of experience in the installation and repair of locks.

Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: NONE

Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Additional experience in the installation and repair of locks will substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

Probationary Period

This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
