The County of Ventura seeks a skilled Locksmith to join the General Services Agency. This role involves repairing and installing locks and locking devices, ensuring customer service standards are met. THE AGENCY
The General Services Agency (GSA) is comprised of Fleet Services, Facilities, Procurement, Special Services, Parks, Security, and Business Support and is responsible for a broad spectrum of services to all County departments and agencies. It requires a very diverse workforce to accomplish the GSA mission of contributing to the quality of life in Ventura County by partnering with customers to provide expertise and cost-effective service delivery, and foster the preservation of natural resources.
THE POSITION
Under general supervision, repairs, services and installs locks and locking devices; repairs and installs all types of automatic, electrical and air operated doors; maintains complete locking system record.
The ideal candidate will be highly skilled and knowledgeable about all aspects of locking systems and devices employed in commercial and industrial settings, have a minimum of 5 years journey level experience, and/or possess certification from a recognized training program, and work well with others to ensure customer service standards are met and exceeded.

Locksmith is represented by the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 501 (IUOE) and is eligible for overtime compensation.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE: Two (2) years of journey-level locksmith experience
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:
Ability to kneel, crouch, squat, stoop, reach, twist and lift to accomplish assigned tasks.
Position of and ability to maintain a valid California Driver License.
Must have or obtain clearance to work in Juvenile Justice and Sheriff Jail facilities.
DESIRED:
Currently licensed by the California State Bureau of Security and Investigative Services.
Certification from a recognized Locksmith training program.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES
Working knowledge of: methods, materials, tools, practices, parts, and equipment used in locksmith trade; design, construction, installation, operation, adjustment, repair, rebuilding and maintenance of locks, locking devices, doors, and door closures; principles required to formulate, operate, and maintain key code systems.
Working ability to: install, adjust, and repair locks, locking devices, doors and door closures; fabricate parks and work from specification sketches; estimate labor and material costs, set up, operate and maintain complete locking systems records.

SUPPLEMENTAL QUESTIONNAIRE - qualifying
All applicants are required to complete and submit the questionnaire for this examination at the time of filing. This questionnaire may be used throughout the examination process to assist in determining each applicants qualifications for the position. Failure to complete and submit the questionnaire may result in removal of the application from further consideration.
APPLICATION EVALUATION - qualifying:
All applications will be reviewed to determine whether or not the stated requirements are met. Those individuals meeting the stated requirements will be invited to continue to the next step in the examination process.
PRACTICAL EXAMINATION-100%: A job related practical examination will be conducted to evaluate and compare participating candidates' knowledge, skills and abilities as a locksmith. Candidates must earn a score of seventy (70%) percent or higher to qualify for placement on the eligible list.
Candidates successfully completing the examination process may be placed on an eligible list for a period of one (1) year.
BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION:The successful candidate must undergo a background investigations which may include inquiry into past employment, education, criminal background information and driving record. The successful candidate must have or obtain clearance to work in Juvenile Justice and Sheriff Department facilities.
