Job summary

Applied Professional Services, Inc. (APS) in Kent, WA seeks a Locating Technician II to join our Subsurface Utility Engineering field tech team. You'll operate SUE locating equipment, perform field surveys, and support crew activities in various outdoor settings.

Applicants should have 4+ years in utility locating, a valid driver’s license, and the ability to travel up to 50% with occasional overnight stays. CDL is not required, and safety certifications are a plus.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED required.
• 4+ years in utility locating or as a SUE Field Tech.
• Ability to read utility company prints and design plans.
• Valid driver's license with good driving record.
• Ability to pass a pre-employment physical (U.S. only).
• Ability to obtain a DOT medical card for CMV operation (U.S. only).
• Ability to lift 50 lbs and perform physical tasks with heavy tools/equipment.
• Ability to work outdoors in all climates.
• Willingness to travel up to 50% of the time, by company vehicle or air travel, up to 2 weeks.
• Willingness to work nights and weekends when required.
• Good oral and written communication skills; attention to detail.
• OSHA Safety certifications are a plus.

Responsibilities

• Be skilled in the operation of SUE locating and designation equipment, including locators and GPR.
• Complete detailed daily billing forms and field sketches.
• Use tools and equipment to conduct utility investigations.
• Drive commercial vehicles; CDL not required.
• Perform safety setup and traffic operations under supervision.
• Assist with survey and data collection tasks.
• Perform daily maintenance of equipment and vehicles.

Locating Technician II responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Be skilled in the operation of SUE utility locating and designating equipment, including pipe and cable locators, Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR)
• Complete detailed accurate daily billing forms, forms and field sketches or RM Locating
• Use of tools and equipment to conduct utility investigations
• Drive commercial motor vehicles, however a CDL license is not required
• Perform safety set-up and maintenance of traffic operations under direct supervision of senior field staff
• Assist with survey and data collection tasks, supporting overall crew activities
• Perform daily routine maintenance of equipment
• Perform daily basic vehicle maintenance

Locating Technician II Qualifications:

• High School Diploma/GED
• 4+ years of experience in the utility locating industry or as a SUE Field Tech
• Ability to read and interpret utility company prints and design plans
• Valid driver's license with good driving record
• Ability to pass a pre-employment physical (U.S. only)
• Ability to obtain a DOT medical card for CMV operation (U.S. only)
• Ability to lift 50 lbs. and perform physical movements necessary to operate heavy tools and equipment
• Ability to work outdoors in all climates
• Willingness to travel up to 50% of the time, by company vehicle or commercial airline, up to 2 week continuous stay
• Work nights and weekends when required to do so
• Must have a good oral and written communication skills and attention to detail
• OSHA Safety certifications are a plus
