Job Description

Locating Technicians are responsible for accurately locating underground facilities including telephone communication lines, electric power lines, cable television lines, gas lines, fiber‑optic lines, water lines, and sewer lines. The technician ensures that the area complies with client and state requirements. Service duties include observing, locating, marking, and documenting underground and exposed utility locations. The role requires knowledge of multiple methods and the ability to use various tools and equipment. Technicians work independently or as part of a team under the supervision of an assigned manager.

Duties

• Locate underground facilities using transmitters and other equipment.
• Work in diverse terrains and weather conditions within construction zones and residential, commercial, industrial, and rural areas.
• Interpret job order tickets, blueprints, and maps to efficiently route and perform duties.
• Perform daily and emergency locates during regular, overtime, and holiday hours as necessary to meet customer needs.
• Maintain professional, timely, and efficient work while communicating and interacting with customers, co‑employees, and third parties.
• Collaborate with management, contractors, and utility customers to ensure a damage‑free environment.
• Use appropriate technology and tools for locating tasks.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent (GED).
• State‑issued driver’s license.
• Problem‑solving skills.
• Ability to read, interpret, and decode multiple types of prints.
• Experience with vacuum trucks (A+).
• Ability to lift 50 lbs.
• Ability to walk and stand for multiple hours per day.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Pass a background check with no violations within the last five years.
• Pass a DOT drug test.
