Job summary

Responsibilities

• Maintain records of locate activities and prepare reports for compliance.

• Perform maintenance/calibration of locating equipment.

Job Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented and safety-conscious Locate Technician to join our team in Battle Creek, MI. The Locate Technician will be responsible for identifying and marking underground utility lines to ensure safe excavation and construction activities. This role requires strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.

Key Responsibilities

• Respond to locate requests and accurately identify underground utilities including gas, electric, water, sewer, and telecommunications lines.
• Use specialized equipment such as ground-penetrating radar, electromagnetic locators, and GPS devices to detect and mark utility lines.
• Mark utility locations clearly and accurately using paint, flags, or stakes according to industry standards and local regulations.
• Maintain detailed records of locate activities, including maps, reports, and documentation for compliance and safety purposes.
• Communicate effectively with contractors, utility companies, and customers to provide information and resolve locate-related issues.
• Follow all safety protocols and procedures to prevent damage to underground utilities and ensure personal and public safety.
• Perform routine maintenance and calibration of locating equipment to ensure accuracy and reliability.
• Work collaboratively with team members and supervisors to meet project deadlines and customer expectations.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Previous experience in utility locating, construction, or related field preferred.
• Knowledge of underground utility systems and industry standards.
• Ability to operate locating equipment and technology effectively.
• Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and perform physical tasks such as walking, bending, and lifting.
• Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.

This position involves working outdoors on construction sites and public areas. The Locate Technician must be able to navigate uneven terrain and work in all weather conditions. Safety is a top priority, and adherence to all safety guidelines is required.
