Job summary

Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) has an immediate opening for a Local Manager located at Pawnee City Office in Pawnee City, Nebraska. The incumbent oversees public relations, customer service, and technical line/substation work, reporting to the Distribution Supervisor.

Qualifications include graduation from a Line Technician school or equivalent, with required licenses (Journey Line Technician, CDL, CPR/First Aid) and ability to travel 25–50% as needed.

Qualifications

  • Must be a graduate (certificate, diploma, or associate's degree) of an accredited Line Technician school.
  • OR Achieve a certificate from an NPPD approved program.
  • OR Have documented Line Technician experience with another utility or electrical contractor that is considered an acceptable equivalent to the formal education options listed.
  • Internal incumbents who achieve a Journey Line Technician certification from NPPD must have been in a field crew environment at NPPD for a minimum of four years before they are eligible to test for the Journey certification.

Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) has an immediate opening for a Local Manager located at Pawnee City Office in Pawnee City, Nebraska. Position closes August 31, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. Central Time.

This position will report to the Distribution Supervisor.

Position Summary

The incumbent maintains good public relations and ensures dependable customer service by functioning as a Manager in one or more Distribution (retail)/Operations and Maintenance (O&M) towns, representing the District in all areas of public relations, and maintaining contact with local village boards or councils as it relates to District responsibility, while performing technical line and substationwork.

Education, Training and Experience

Must be a graduate (certificate, diploma, or associate's degree) of an accredited Line Technician school.

OR

Achieve a certificate from an NPPD approved program.

OR

Have documented Line Technician experience with another utility or electrical contractor that is considered an acceptable equivalent to the formal education options listed.

Internal incumbents who achieve a Journey Line Technician certification from NPPD must have been in a field crew environment at NPPD for a minimum of fouryears before they are eligible to test for the Journey certification.

Licenses and/or Certifications

Must have achieved Journey Line Technician status with NPPD. Become certified as an NPPD Switchmanin Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid or equivalentand maintain a minimum Class 'A' Commercial Driver's License (CDL), with the expectation that random drug and alcohol testing is required. For underground vault work, must have confined space certification in some situations. Incumbent must obtain and maintain clearance holder certification.

Construction, maintenance, and operation of lines, substations, and equipment. Ascend and descend wood poles and steel towers of any height up to 100 plus feet regularly while performing work as required in a safe and productive manner without close supervision. Under specific business need, may be required to climb towers and structures up to 300+ feet. Maintain and operate distribution, subtransmission, and transmission systems for retail and wholesale customers. Operate and maintain District vehicles and hydraulic equipment. Inspect and maintain substations as required. Patrol distribution, subtransmission, and transmission lines and facilities. Perform switching duties as required. Perform energized line work.

Set, remove, and read District meters. Collect delinquent accounts and perform service disconnects and reconnects. Investigate high bill complaints and service interruptions to customers. Analyze and initiate corrective action on outages and troubleshoot service related problems.

Trim trees out of distribution and subtransmission conductors. Service street and area lighting systems.

Process accurate notifications, service orders, material, time, and substation reports through documented Systems, Applications and Products in Data Processing (SAP) processes.

Lead crews on local jobs in the absence of Supervisor or Senior. Provide logistics for local jobs to be performed by local crews.

Promote, develop, and maintain positive, long-term relationships with Distribution, O&M (retail), wholesale customers, local government officials, and the general public. Consult with Account Managers and/or customers on new installations and changes in power needs while acting as a technical resource for Economic Development needs. Facilitate questions and provide either solutions or redirect to Account Management issues surrounding residential/commercial customer complaints, political issues, or questions that may arise and get referred by front line staff. Achieve a position as a trusted customer resource. Work with customers to identify special power products, or resources, for customers and their end-use customers. Regularly attend city functions that require support from the District.

Incumbent is expected to travel as assigned for work, and to be available for duty per on-call schedules as determined by the Superintendent/Distribution Supervisor. The on-call schedule for a Local Manager is more frequent than other positions as this is a main responsibility for local community support. This is part of the expected job function and associated compensation.

Salary Information - Nebraska Public Power District offers a competitive starting salary with opportunities for growth.In addition to the base salary range listed below, NPPD employees may also be eligible for our Annual Incentive Program (AIP) that may supplement total compensation at a level above and beyond the stated salary range. Successful applicants will be provided more information regarding the incentive program at the time of an interview.

Pay Grade - 14

Typical Pay Grade Starting Salary Range: $47.41 - $60.45

Travel Required: 25% to 50% (With frequent overnight stays, more than 3 per month, typically within state of Nebraska) Travel required may fluctuate by business need. This is an estimate and will be discussed further with candidates that receive an interview.

Retirement Savings
