Responsibilities
- Will be assigned to an area (ER or OR), will do portable, young and geriatric imaging.
- Hours: 5‑8 hour days, 7a‑3:30p every other weekend rotation.
- Shifts: Monday–Friday and every other weekend.
- On‑Call: No.
- Block Scheduling: No.
- Perform radiologic procedures under the direction of a Radiologist.
- Explain examination procedure to patients and prepare them for the examination.
- Review clinical data on requisition and perform appropriate examinations.
- Obtain additional information about patient medical history, as needed.
- Prepare procedure room and replenish stock such as linen and related supplies.
- Analyze anatomical structure of patient, set up equipment, and perform the radiologic procedure.
- Manually control equipment to obtain proper diagnostic information.
- Use patient immobilization as needed.
- Select and administer intravenous contrast media when appropriate.
- Monitor patient for possible reactions and provide immediate care.
- Perform imaging procedures demonstrating radiation protection principles.
- Prepare and set up sterile equipment, monitors, and supplies for procedures.
- Follow department infection control practices and techniques.
- Ensure adequate supplies are on hand and properly stored.
- Follow department standards for patient care functions to ensure safety, privacy, confidentiality, comfort, and legal/ethical rights.
- Complete all necessary worksheets, logs, patient records, and documentation.
- Teach/educate new hires and students when needed.
- Resolve image exceptions and ensure high‑quality image delivery into PACS.
- Complete all study indexing in the Radiology Information System.
- Review and confirm clinical protocols with the Radiologist before performing study.
- Demonstrate consistent team‑member standards of excellence including AIDET, open communication, timely response, positive attitude, innovation, and respect for diversity.
- Perform all documentation in the medical record and radiology information system to support clinical and billing functions.
Physical Demands/Working Conditions
- Work in the hospital with a fixed unit and/or in the IPD/OR/ER, etc. with a mobile unit.
- Potential exposure to radiation if proper precautions are not utilized.
- Potential exposure to high‑voltage equipment.
- Potential exposure to contagious patients.
- Occasionally lift and/or move equipment and/or patients that may exceed 10 lbs.
Education / Experience Required
- High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
- Must maintain required hours of continued education.
Certifications / Licenses Required
- Registered in Radiography with the American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT).
- Healthcare Provider certification required (BCLS).
