Job summary

Ever Fresh Fruit Company seeks a Local Class A CDL Driver to transport goods between company facilities, warehouses, customers, and suppliers. This day-shift role covers a local area with home daily and requires safe driving and adherence to food safety standards.

Responsibilities include pre/post-trip inspections, route planning, load securement, and supporting warehouse tasks as needed. CDL and DOT certs are mandatory; forklift skills are a plus.

Qualifications

  • Valid Class A CDL is required.
  • Current DOT Medical Examiner’s Certificate is required.
  • Two or more years of Class A tractor-trailer driving experience preferred.
  • Forklift operation ability or certification preferred.
  • Excellent time management and communication skills.

Day shift, primarily Monday through Friday; overtime and occasional weekend work may be required based on business needs. Home daily.

Job Summary:

The Local Class A CDL Driver is responsible for the safe and timely transportation of finished goods, raw materials, ingredients, packaging, and other materials between Ever Fresh Fruit Company facilities, third-party warehouses, customers, and suppliers. This is a local, day-shift position with the driver returning home daily. In addition to driving responsibilities, this position supports warehouse and shipping operations as needed, including loading and unloading, forklift operation, load securement, documentation, and compliance with food safety and transportation requirements.

Essential Functions:
  1. Safely transport finished goods, raw materials, ingredients, packaging, and other materials between company facilities, third-party warehouses, customers, and suppliers
  2. Complete required pre-trip and post-trip inspections; identify and promptly report mechanical, maintenance, or safety concerns
  3. Plan and follow efficient routes while meeting scheduled pickup and delivery appointments and communicating delays or issues promptly
  4. Maintain required driving, mileage, fuel, delivery, and other transportation documentation in accordance with company and regulatory requirements
  5. Operate commercial motor vehicles in compliance with applicable DOT/FMCSA requirements, size and weight restrictions, route requirements, hours-of-service rules, and company policies and procedures
  6. Safely maneuver tractors and trailers into docks, loading areas, and other designated locations
  7. Collect, verify, and return delivery instructions, bills of lading, seals, and other required shipment documentation
  8. Immediately report accidents, violations, product damage, temperature deviations, equipment defects, or other transportation concerns

In addition to the primary driving responsibilities, the driver will be expected to perform the following with limited supervision:

  1. Operate a forklift and assist with loading, unloading, staging, and routing finished goods or materials to appropriate storage locations as needed
  2. Inspect load conditions and verify pallets, materials, and load securement are safe and appropriate prior to transit
  3. Maintain compliance with food safety and product integrity requirements, including sanitary trailer conditions, proper trailer temperatures, required seals or locks, and applicable product storage specifications
  4. Maintain assigned equipment in a clean and professional condition and gather, verify, and return all required load and delivery documentation
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  1. Proficient in forklift operation or able to obtain company forklift certification
  2. Previous Class A tractor-trailer driving experience; two or more years required
  3. Comfortable using electronic equipment and software used for transportation, navigation, communication, and record keeping
  4. Ability to safely perform local pickup and delivery work while meeting scheduled appointments
  5. Working knowledge of applicable commercial motor vehicle rules and regulations
  6. Acceptable motor vehicle record in accordance with company and insurance requirements
  7. Ability to adapt to unexpected situations including traffic, weather, schedule changes, and customer or facility delays
  8. Ability to meet applicable DOT/FMCSA driver qualification and drug and alcohol testing requirements
  9. Experience with refrigerated or temperature-controlled freight and food distribution/manufacturing environments preferred
  10. Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) required
  11. Current DOT Medical Examiner’s Certificate required
  12. Effective time management and organizational skills
  13. Effective verbal and written communication skills
  14. Ability to work independently, make sound decisions, and remain professional under pressure
  15. Ability and willingness to work overtime and occasional weekends when business needs require
Working Conditions/Physical Factors:
  1. May be exposed to a loud warehouse, manufacturing, loading dock, and transportation environment
  2. May be exposed to moving equipment, vehicle traffic, mechanical hazards, temperature changes, and outdoor weather conditions
  3. Must be able to work in an environment containing food allergens including nuts, milk, wheat, and other ingredients
  4. Must be able to sit and drive for prolonged periods and periodically stand or walk for extended periods
  5. Frequently required to use hands and arms to operate vehicle controls, open and close trailer doors, handle load securement devices, and perform related duties
  6. Must be able to safely enter and exit tractors and trailers, climb steps, bend, reach, twist, and maneuver around loading and warehouse areas
  7. Frequently required to communicate with warehouse personnel, customers, suppliers, third-party facilities, and other drivers
  8. Frequently required to lift, push, pull, or carry up to 65 pounds
  9. May be exposed to refrigerated, freezer, and ambient warehouse environments and moving mechanical equipment
