Job summary

Saia LTL Freight in Norfolk, VA seeks a professional driver to move freight between company terminals and customer sites within a defined geographic area. You will drive tractor trailers, load and unload cargo, plan efficient routes, and ensure on-time deliveries.

Requirements include a valid Class A CDL with hazmat, tanker, and twin trailer endorsements, at least 1 year of verifiable driving experience, and the ability to lift up to 100 pounds.

Qualifications

  • Must be 21+ years old with a valid CDL and endorsements.
  • At least 1 year of verifiable tractor-trailer driving experience.
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Drive tractor trailers to deliver and pick up freight.
  • Load, unload, and sort freight at multiple locations.
  • Plan routes and maintain timely deliveries and pickups.
  • Follow safety, pre/post-trip and billing procedures.
  • Maintain records and assist with load paperwork.
  • Serve as first point of contact for delivery issues.

Saia is a logistics and transportation company committed to excellence. In this role you will ensure freight is delivered in a claims-free and cost‑efficient manner.

Position Summary

Drive freight between company terminals and customer facilities or work sites within a defined geographic area.

Major Tasks and Responsibilities
  • Drive tractor trailers to deliver and pick up customer freight.
  • Sort, handle, load, and unload freight at various company and customer locations.
  • Plan routes and schedules to ensure timely deliveries and pickups.
  • Follow established pre‑trip, post‑trip, freight handling, and billing procedures.
  • Conduct inspections by following established safety and quality control procedures.
  • Retain and maintain records, forms, and load‑related paperwork.
  • Serve as the first point‑of‑contact for delivery‑related issues.
Pay Rate

$29.75–$32.75 per hour, based on experience.

Job Requirements
Required Qualifications
  • Minimum 21 years of age.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Authorized to work in the United States.
  • Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with hazmat, tanker, and twin trailer endorsements.
  • At least 1 year of verifiable tractor‑trailer driving experience.
  • No DUI, DWI, or license suspension for moving violations within the past 3 years.
  • No chargeable accidents or serious traffic violations within the past 6 months.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 100 pounds to and from trailers.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to work in varying temperatures and weather conditions.
  • Proficient reading, writing, speaking, and comprehension of English.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience operating a forklift and pallet jack.
  • Strong knowledge of DOT regulations and safety procedures.
  • Proven track record of safe driving and on‑time deliveries.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills with customers and terminal staff.
  • Experience with electronic logging devices or other driver technology systems.
