Description
Purpose:
The Loader Operator is responsible for operating heavy equipment to load materials such as aggregate, soil, or other raw materials into transport vehicles or processing equipment. This role supports yard and plant operations and includes responsibilities such as material inventory management, equipment-related paperwork, routine maintenance, and general site upkeep.
Essential Functions:
- Follow safety procedures and attend safety meetings to promote a safe work environment.
- Maintain equipment according to safety policies, legal guidelines, and company standards.
- Perform truck check-in process at the beginning of each shift to ensure smooth yard operations.
- Follow supervisory instructions and adhere to plant rules.
- Communicate effectively and courteously with peers, supervisors, and vendors.
- Operate front-end loader and other heavy equipment to move and load materials for plant use.
- Load bins and keep the dry-batch plant supplied with raw materials per production needs.
- Ensure trucking drivers dump materials in the correct pits.
- Maintain a clean, debris-free yard, ramp, plant site, and equipment areas.
- Manage materials inventory at appropriate levels.
- Perform general maintenance duties such as shoveling, greasing, cleaning pits, and maintaining the reclaimer.
- Load ice into mixer trucks during summer months as needed.
- Apply mechanical knowledge to perform minor repairs and refer major issues to supervisors.
- Empty trash and maintain proper disposal of waste materials.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Minimum Requirements:
- High school diploma required.
- Minimum one year of safe front-end loader operation experience.
- Strong communication, decision-making, and basic math skills.
- Ability to work flexible hours and overtime as needed.
- Valid driver’s license required; loader operator certification preferred.
- Prior ready-mix concrete experience preferred but not required.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to safely lift a minimum of 60 lbs. occasionally.
- Ability to climb, stoop, bend, squat, lift, stretch, push, pull, twist, kneel, stand, walk, sit, and reach.
- Ability to safely climb up and down stairs and/or ladders.
- Ability to work primarily outside, with exposure to the extremes of hot or cold weather.
