Job summary

Canfor is seeking a Loader Operator for its Graham, NC sawmill to join a hands-on, safety‑minded team. You will load/unload logs, manage logistics around the log yard, and assist with maintenance in a fast‑paced, safety‑driven environment.

The role requires 3–5 years of manufacturing experience with heavy equipment, strong communication, and the ability to work 8–12 hour shifts in varying weather conditions. This is a full-time onsite position at our Graham facility.

Qualifications

• 3-5 years manufacturing experience in an industrial environment with heavy‑duty equipment.
• Able to work safely and efficiently in a fast‑paced production setting.
• Capable of sitting/standing for 8–12 hours and climbing in/out of machinery.
• Able to lift up to 50 pounds and work in varying weather conditions.

Responsibilities

• Load and unload logs as directed to meet production goals.
• Move logs from the kick out bin daily with the knuckle‑boom loader.
• Transport painted/oversized logs to the metal yard; rest onto log deck.
• Maintain daily cleanup around the log yard and kick out bin.
• Fill in at the Scalehouse and perform scale/log loading duties as needed.
• Assist with weekly maintenance and complete daily check sheets.
• Follow all safety rules and wear PPE; promote safe work practices.

This role is a permanent full-time position working Monday-Friday.

What you will do as a Loader Operator:

• Load and unload logs as directed, ensuring production expectations are met.
• Remove logs from the kick out bin daily with the knuckle‑boom loader.
• Ensure painted and oversized logs are taken to the metal yard, while others are placed back on the log deck.
• Perform daily cleanup duties around the metal log field and kick out bin.
• Fill in at the Scalehouse as needed, handling various scale functions and log loading/unloading.
• Perform or assist with weekly preventative maintenance on machinery and complete daily check sheets.
• Adhere to all safety rules and procedures, using personal protective equipment (PPE) and promoting safe work practices.

Experience and skills that will help you stand out:

• 3-5 years of manufacturing experience in an industrial environment operating heavy‑duty equipment.
• Ability to work safely and efficiently in a fast‑paced production environment.
• Capable of sitting and/or standing for the entire shift (8-12 hours) and climbing in and out of machinery without assistance.
• Frequently able to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
• Comfortable working in varying weather conditions, with exposure to dust, vibration, and high noise levels.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• A high degree of urgency and attention to detail.
• Desire to learn, grow, and succeed.
• Knowledge of the wood manufacturing industry and machine operator/maintenance experience are considered an asset.
