Salary Range: $22.00 - $22.00 Hourly
Position Overview
The Loader transloads liquid/dry bulk products daily for rail-to-truck liquid and dry bulk hazardous/non-hazardous chemical transloading operations. Other responsibilities include maintaining facilities, developing a parts and tool inventory, and assisting with other cleanup/housekeeping duties.
Major Responsibilities
- Heating railcars and truck trailers
- Loading and offloading railcars/tank trailers
- Railcar inspections
- Equipment and terminal maintenance
- Complete loads accurately and on schedule
- Operate pickup trucks, boilers, compressors, air dryers, DI water systems, pumps, meters, and certified truck scales
- Maintain inventory of fittings and other loading equipment
- Use measuring equipment to load accurate volumes
- Follow all SOPs and work order instructions to ensure loads are completed correctly and safely without contamination, spill, or other incidents
- Operate safely and adhere to mandatory PPE requirements
- Read and interpret paperwork accurately
- Communicate work schedules with other departments
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements and Qualifications
- High School Diploma
- Comfortable handling hazardous chemicals and not afraid of heights
- Understanding of mechanical processes; able to diagnose and solve problems
- Ability to communicate adequately with coworkers and supervisory staff
- Effective verbal and written communication in English
- Extremely accurate and detail‑oriented; does not overlook things or make errors
- Ability to read and interpret complex paperwork and other data, such as chemical names, order numbers, and rail car numbers
- Multi‑tasking ability, tracking several activities at once
- Ability to handle shifting priorities and constantly changing conditions
- Flexibility to work effectively on varying schedules
- Team player; able to get along well with coworkers, drivers, and supervisors; able to settle disagreements professionally and productively
- Safety orientation; uses protective equipment all the time, follows SOPs, and manages risks to prevent incidents
- High energy level and initiative; takes the lead in improving operations and fixing equipment as needed
- Mechanical ability to perform basic repairs on boilers, compressors, valves, and other equipment
- Safe use of basic hand tools
- Trustworthy, honest, reliable; able to operate autonomously for long periods with minimal supervision
- Punctual and responsible; shows up for work every day and takes full responsibility for operations
- Valid Class C driver’s license and acceptable driving record; must be insurable to operate company vehicles
- Successful work experience demonstrating a strong work ethic
- Self‑motivated with good critical thinking, deductive reasoning, and decision‑making skills; organized
Physical Requirements
- Lift and carry heavy hoses, fittings, and other equipment weighing up to 100 pounds
- Crawl underneath and climb onto railcars, containers, and tank trailers
- Sit or stand for long periods of time
- Walk, bend, reach, push, pull, stoop, squat, and climb as necessary to perform vehicle inspections and load/unload cargo
- Connect 20‑ft chemical hoses to railcars, often requiring lifting and pulling in awkward positions; operate valves that may be difficult to open or close
- Pass a pulmonary function test (PFT)
- Work outdoors and tolerate extreme weather conditions such as rain, heat, or cold
