Purpose

Under general supervision, performs routine loading and unloading of materials within yard or work site; assembles load packages into trucks for delivery to customer sites.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Loads and unloads materials onto/from pallets, trucks, or customer vehicles; installs strapping, bracing, or padding to prevent shifting or damage during transit.
• Performs load-building, determining appropriate weight, composition, and placement based on customer orders and vehicle capacity to ensure safety and balance.
• Reads work orders or follows oral instructions to determine materials to be moved or loaded.
• Conveys materials to/from storage using hand trucks, forklifts, or other devices.
• Opens containers, units, slings, and loads using hand tools.
• Attaches tags or labels for correct identification of items.
• Follows all safety procedures to prevent injuries; attends safety meetings; may suggest safety improvements.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Minimum Education and Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED.
• Three months of experience in similar tasks or equivalent education/experience.
• Forklift certification required.

Competencies

• Forklift operation certification.
• Knowledge of company products and handling requirements.
• Ability to read and write for work orders and labeling.
• Manual dexterity and ability to use hand tools.
• Knowledge of safety procedures for forklift operation and material handling.
• Ability to follow detailed instructions and verify items.

Work Environment/Physical Activity

Work is performed in a yard environment with temperature variations, chemicals, noise, and dust. Must be able to lift up to 80 pounds occasionally and perform tasks involving climbing, lifting, pushing, or kneeling.
