Your Opportunity

The LNM Technician is responsible for crop management and nutrient application on farmland, ensuring all outdoor activities align with Smithfield Hog Production Division's standards for farm appearance and stewardship.

Core Responsibilities

• Perform general maintenance, including crawling under equipment or lying on the ground
• Conduct weed eating, spraying, side mowing, bush hogging, discing fields, and record keeping
• Move reels, pivots, linear, pumps, or other equipment
• Drive tractors and mowers
• Comply with safety (IPS), bio-security (BMS), and environmental (EMS) regulations
• Take daily rainfall readings and conduct inspections
• Assist with spill recoveries using a trash pump
• Winterize equipment
• Set up pumps and transfer water or effluent
• Achieve certification as a spray applicator within one year of hire
• Be on call for emergency situations

This list is not exhaustive; other duties may be assigned as needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred
• Ability to read and speak English
• Experience with farm machinery or heavy equipment; ability to work independently
• Follow instructions and handle standardized situations
• Work an average of 48 hours per week, with variability
• Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record
• Willingness to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as needed
• Ability to work well in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment

Work Environment

The physical and environmental conditions of this role include:

• Occasionally lifting/moving up to 50 lbs
• Standing, walking, using hands, reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, talking, and hearing
• Visual requirements include close and distant vision, focus adjustment
• Exposure to wet/humid conditions, cold, heat, moving mechanical parts, fumes, airborne particles, and chemicals
