Job summary

NextDecade is seeking an Operations Competency Assessor to support the Senior Manager, Training in implementing CAMS for RGLNG Operations personnel. The role includes assessing performance, delivering classroom and field training, and maintaining competency profiles across safety-critical tasks.

The candidate will conduct field verifications, verify training completion, and provide detailed feedback to improve operator readiness and safety compliance. This role is based in Brownsville, TX.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of Operations experience with an owner/operator at an LNG or gas processing facility.
• 2+ years experience with training and competency development.
• Strong understanding of LNG plant operations and processes.
• Experience with operations training and competency development.
• Knowledge of competency-based assessment methodologies.
• Strong instructional and presentation skills.
• Understanding of safety management systems and regulatory requirements.
• Strong observation and evaluation skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
• Experience with learning management systems.

Responsibilities

• Assess the performance of operations personnel and related knowledge across tasks, ensuring demonstrated competence meets CAMS standards.
• Deliver technical training programs through classroom instruction and field-based training (LNG technology, plant operations, safety systems, emergency procedures).
• Support the development and maintenance of role competency profiles and identify safety-critical tasks.
• Conduct field assessments and observations to evaluate operator competency in normal operations, start-up/shutdown, emergencies, and maintenance prep.
• Verify completion of required training curricula before competency assessments.
• Document assessment results and provide detailed feedback on competency gaps to personnel and supervisors.
• Assist in QA activities to maintain CAMS integrity; support development of tools, guides, and verification processes.
• Participate in pre-commissioning and commissioning activities to assess operator readiness.
• Mentor and guide operations personnel in developing competency; support continuous CAMS improvement.
• Perform operational duties as needed to support the facility.
