Job summary

Housing Works in New York, NY seeks a licensed LMSW to establish therapeutic relationships with assigned clients and support prevention-focused mental health services within our clinic.

The LMSW will assess risks, develop and monitor treatment plans, and collaborate with staff to coordinate comprehensive care. We offer a salary of $65,000–$70,000 per year, healthcare options, up to 30 days PTO, and an educational benefit.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in social work required.
• Current NYS LMSW licensure required.
• Minimum 2 years experience in clinical mental health counseling/therapy.
• Ability to develop treatment plans and crisis interventions.

Responsibilities

• Maintain client confidentiality and protect treatment records.

• Pay or shift range: $65,000 USD to $70,000 USD
  The estimated range is the budgeted amount for this position. Final offers are based on various factors, including skill set, experience, location, qualifications and other job-related reasons.

Compensation Range: $65,000 - $70,000 yearly commensurate with experience

Overview:

The LMSW therapist establishes a therapeutic relationship with assigned clients and helps clients with emphasis on prevention. The LMSW therapist works with clients and groups to promote optimum mental health. The LMSW is responsible for the overall maintenance of a therapeutic environment in the Clinic.

Responsibilities:

• Maintain confidentiality of records relating to client’s treatment
• Assess each client for risk level and complete safety planning/monitoring as needed
• Encourage clients to express their feelings and discuss what is happening in their lives and help them to develop insight into themselves and their relationships.
• Guide clients in the development of skills and strategies for dealing with their problems.
• Prepare and maintain all required treatment records and reports.
• Counsel clients, individually and in group sessions, to assist in overcoming dependencies, adjusting to life and making changes.
• Collect information about clients through interviews, observation, and tests.
• Complete comprehensive assessments with DSM 5 diagnosis
• Act as client advocates to coordinate required services or to resolve emergency problems in crisis situations.
• Develop and implement treatment plans based on clinical experience and knowledge
• Complete progress notes for each session within 24-48 hours and complete billing for the session
• Engage in outreach to clients who do not attend scheduled appointments and document appropriately
• Collaborate with other staff members to perform clinical assessments and develop treatment plans.
• Evaluate client’s physical or mental condition based on review of client information
• Evaluate the effectiveness of therapy programs and client’s progress in resolving identified problems and moving towards defined objectives
• Modify treatment activities and approaches as needed to comply with changes in clients status
• Monitor client’s use of medications
• Learn about new developments in the field by reading professional literature, attending courses and seminars, and establishing and maintaining contact with other social service agencies.
• Gather information about community mental health needs and resources that could be used in conjunction with therapy.
• Attend weekly team meetings
• Participate in monthly continuing education
• The Therapist will have access to PHI during the course of his/her work activities. Incumbent will use this information to provide psychiatric therapy as needed in compliance with all OMH 599 regulations and guidelines relative to established plan of care. ALL HIPAA, corporate compliance, and program guidelines must be maintained and kept at all times.
• Attendance of in-service trainings required.

Requirements:

• Master’s Degree in Social Work
• Current NYS LMSW licensure
• Minimum 2 years experience in providing mental health counseling/therapy within a clinical setting.
• Well versed in diagnosis, therapy, educational programs and development of treatment plans; able to deal effectively with variety of patient mental disabilities and dysfunctions; provide crisis intervention and treatment for patients which may require special observation.
• Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision in a fast paced environment.
