Job summary

Turner Farm Livestock Program Assistant is a full-time, permanent position with a schedule Monday–Friday and occasional weekend/holiday shifts based on needs. The role supports daily husbandry, feeding, and health care for cattle, sheep, hens, hogs, and other livestock.

The assistant reports to the Livestock Program Manager and collaborates with interns and assistants. Responsibilities include rotating pastures, maintaining fences, handling emergencies, and assisting with transport and field

Qualifications

  • Previous experience with livestock or other large-animal-related fields.
  • Interest and basic knowledge of farming, biology, and livestock animals.
  • Strength and flexibility – ability to lift heavy objects safely.
  • Prior experience with agricultural equipment and large machinery operations preferred.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

  • Daily husbandry activities to keep livestock healthy and productive
  • Feeding, watering, and administering medicines as directed by the Livestock Program Manager
  • Rotating animals among pastures and paddocks using electrified net fencing and multi‑strand poly wire fences
  • Cleaning and repairing stalls and other livestock‑occupied areas
  • Assisting with humane transport of livestock
  • Responding to emergencies (e.g., animal escapes)
  • Assisting with mowing fields, seeding pastures, building fences, and other pasture projects
  • Collecting and inspecting eggs for washing and packing in cartons

  • Laying Hens
  • Hogs (Seasonal)
  • Meat birds (Seasonal)
  • Other livestock enterprises that may be added over time.
Organizational Relationship

The Livestock Assistant will report to the Livestock Program Manager and work with other Livestock Program Assistants and Livestock Program Interns.

Job Duties
  • Daily husbandry activities to keep livestock healthy and productive
  • Feeding, watering, and administering medicines as directed by the Livestock Program Manager
  • Rotating animals among pastures and paddocks using electrified net fencing and multi‑strand poly wire fences
