Job summary

Montana State University - Office of Student Engagement seeks a Livestock and Farm Assistant Manager to support NARC operations with cattle handling, daily livestock care, and facility maintenance. The role collaborates with the Superintendent and Operations Managers to ensure safe, efficient farm operations and record-keeping.

The successful candidate will oversee day-to-day tasks, supervise undergraduate staff, and assist in planning safety and training.

Qualifications

Associate degree in Animal Science or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
Experience with cattle handling, behavior, husbandry, and modern management knowledge and skills.
Experience managing facilities and equipment.
Experience supervising undergraduate student employees.
Experience operating and maintaining large equipment used in farm/ranch operations.
Experience in feedstuff production, irrigation, raking, baling of hay and related equipment.

Responsibilities

Participate in day-to-day livestock and farm operations in line with budget limits.
Assist with supervising student labor during calving, feeding, and health activities.
Maintain production records for hay and feedstuffs.
Develop or implement livestock feeding protocols and track harvested feeds.
Plan and conduct safety meetings for livestock operations staff.
Coordinate with management on research projects and equipment maintenance.
