Job summary

The Residence Director at University of Massachusetts Amherst leads the overall student experience within residence halls, guiding learning through a curricular approach, and supporting student wellbeing while supervising staff across residences.

They supervise undergraduate Resident Assistants and may oversee Graduate Assistants, contribute to staff development, coordinate incident responses with campus partners, and ensure on-call coverage. On-campus furnished housing is provided.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree required.
• At least one academic year of post-baccalaureate live-in experience.
• Experience supervising undergraduate student staff.
• Excellent oral and written communication.
• Experience with incident response and student concerns.
• Ability to work independently and maintain privacy.
• Experience with diverse student populations and inclusive communities.
• Strong interpersonal skills and teamwork.
• Proficient with office software and databases.

Responsibilities

• Lead student learning and community development within housing.
• Supervise RA team and support staff.
• Implement residential curriculum strategies.
• Coordinate incident responses and follow-ups.
• Provide on-site support during on-call rotations.
• Collaborate with campus partners and units.
• Manage community budget and purchasing.
• Attend staff training on DEI topics.
