Job summary

The California Attorney General's Office seeks paralegals to support litigation in its Tort and Condemnation Section, assisting Deputy Attorneys General in civil cases involving government tort liability and related matters.

You will help with discovery, witness preparation, evidence analysis, and coordination with experts while upholding the highest ethical and professional standards. This role requires teamwork and independence in a high-profile civil litigation environment.

Qualifications

• Experience in legal support of civil litigation in California state or federal courts.
• Excellent legal research, writing, and organization skills.
• Ability to work independently and provide high-level assistance to attorneys.
• Clear and respectful communication with clients, colleagues, supervisors, and court personnel.
• Experience in document management and working with electronic data.
• Knowledge of the Government Claims Act is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Assist in all aspects of civil litigation from inception through trial, settlement, or appeal.
• Coordinate requests for representation from client agencies.
• Draft and respond to discovery requests and assist in discovery management.
• Interview and prepare witnesses.
• Analyze and summarize medical records and other evidence.
• Coordinate with expert witnesses, including preparing contracts and managing billing.
• Communicate with clients and witnesses and work collaboratively with team members.
• Represent the Attorney General’s Office with the highest ethical and professional standards.
