Job description

The Litigation Paralegal will provide essential support to L4GG's newly formed Pro Bono Litigation Corps (PBLC), which challenges unlawful actions by the federal government in partnership with other organizations and pro bono attorneys nationwide. The ideal candidate will have strong paralegal and litigation experience, preferably in federal court, a deep commitment to public interest law, and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment. The paralegal will be instrumental to the success of our PBLC and work collaboratively with our nationwide pro bono partners.

The litigation paralegal reports to the Litigation Director.

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Litigation Support
  • Assist attorneys with investigation, client interviews, and fact development for public interest litigation cases
  • Draft discovery requests, subpoenas, and other litigation documents under attorney supervision
  • Conduct comprehensive document review and organization for complex federal litigation matters
  • Research public records and maintain detailed case documentation and evidence files
  • Prepare exhibits, witness binders, and trial materials as needed
  • Manage electronic case files and ensure compliance with federal court filing requirements
  • Client & Case Management
  • Maintain regular communication with clients throughout litigation process
  • Coordinate with pro bono partners and co-counsel on case development and strategy
  • Track case progress, deadlines, and court requirements across multiple matters
  • Assist with client meetings and occasionally accompany attorneys to court proceedings
  • Coordinate all logistics for meetings, hearings, service of process, courtesy copy delivery and other litigation support
  • Work with pro bono attorneys that are supporting litigation
  • Administrative & Compliance Support
  • Ensure compliance with ethical standards, professional responsibility requirements, and L4GG's policies
  • Maintain accurate case records in internal case management systems
  • Assist with data collection and reporting for funders and organizational assessment
  • Collaborate with colleagues by providing input on and assisting in the implementation of legal program policies, procedures and systems - such as the case management process; paper and electronic filings systems; and legal docket
  • Scheduling and facilitating weekly internal team meetings and taking minutes
  • Provide general administrative support and travel planning to the PBLC team as needed
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to collaborative case planning

QUALIFICATIONS

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution
  • Minimum 3 years of litigation paralegal experience, preferably in federal court system
  • Knowledge and experience with PACER filing system and federal court procedures
  • Proven project and time management skills
  • Self-starter who shows strong initiative and is committed to growth and reaching goals
  • Innovative thinking, willingness to voice opinions and a strong work ethic are essential
  • Demonstrated writing, research, and analytical skills with attention to detail
  • Experience with law office operations, case management systems, and document management
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to communicate compassionately with those in crises.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities in fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with diverse stakeholders
  • Proficiency with Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Drive)
  • Commitment to L4GG's mission and dedication to justice and equity
  • Access to quiet workspace with high-speed internet and ability to participate in video conferences
  • Paralegal certificate from ABA-approved program or equivalent experience strongly preferred
  • Experience in public interest law, civil rights advocacy, or impact litigation
  • Familiarity with constitutional law, administrative law, or government accountability matters
  • Experience working with pro bono counsel and nonprofit legal organizations
  • Proficiency with Clio, Asana, Slack, Airtable, and other remote collaboration tools
  • Experience with data collection and creating reports for grants or funders
