We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced General Liability Litigation Attorney with a strong background in California civil defense litigation. The ideal candidate will have 4+ years of litigation experience, specifically handling general liability matters and representing public and/or private entities on the defense side. Candidates with a combination of plaintiff and defense experience may also be considered.
The firm represents a diverse client base, including school districts, municipalities, nonprofit organizations, corporations, insurance carriers, and self-insured businesses, with matters ranging from pre-litigation through trial.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage general liability and civil defense matters from inception through resolution.
- Represent public and private entities in personal injury, premises liability, property damage, and tort-based claims.
- Handle matters involving slip & fall, sexual abuse claims, school and municipal liability, and other general liability disputes.
- Conduct legal research and draft pleadings, motions, demurrers, discovery, and other substantive legal documents.
- Conduct and defend depositions and participate in court appearances, mediations, and settlement negotiations.
- Develop case strategies and manage matters through pre-litigation, discovery, dispositive motions, and trial.
- Represent clients in California state and federal courts.
- Collaborate with attorneys, clients, insurance carriers, and other stakeholders in a hybrid work environment, with potential flexibility for fully remote candidates.
Qualifications:
- J.D. from an accredited law school and active membership in the California State Bar.
- 4+ years of litigation experience, with a strong focus on general liability and civil defense.
- Experience representing public and/or private entities on the defense side strongly preferred.
- Background in insurance defense, personal injury, premises liability, property damage, employment, and/or tort-based litigation.
- Familiarity with slip & fall, sexual abuse cases, school district liability, and municipal/city liability preferred.
- Strong legal research, writing, analytical, and case management skills.
- Ability to independently manage a caseload while working within a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
- Strong legal writing skills; writing sample required, preferably a motion, demurrer, brief, or other substantive litigation document.
