Job summary

Weintraub Tobin is seeking a Litigation Associate with 2–6 years of experience for its Sacramento or San Francisco office. The role covers all phases of complex general litigation, including motions, discovery, hearings, and trial preparation.

A hybrid schedule is available after 90 days with in-office and remote days. Qualified candidates will have a JD from an accredited school, active California Bar, and strong research, writing, and advocacy skills.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
• Active membership in good standing with the California State Bar.
• 2-6 years of complex general litigation experience.
• Demonstrated experience drafting and arguing dispositive and non-dispositive motions.
• Experience taking and defending depositions and managing cases through discovery, motion practice, mediation, and trial preparation.
• Trial experience preferred.
• Excellent legal research, writing, analytical, and oral advocacy skills.
• Interpersonal and communication skills, with a collaborative, client-focused approach.
• Demonstrated ability to independently manage multiple matters and deadlines while exercising sound judgment with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

• Handle litigation matters through all phases, including pre-litigation strategy, pleadings, discovery, law and motion practice, mediation, trial preparation, and post-trial proceedings
• Draft high-quality pleadings, motions, briefs, and discovery requests and responses, including dispositive motions such as demurrers and motions for summary judgment
• Participate in conducting and defending depositions, preparing witnesses for depositions and hearings, and respond to written discovery requests
• Conduct legal research and provide strategic analysis on complex business-related disputes
• Appear at hearings, case management conferences, mediations, and arbitrations
• Assist with trial preparation, including exhibit preparation, witness outlines, and coordination with experts
• Collaborate closely with partners, senior associates, and clients to develop litigation strategy and manage cases efficiently
• Prepare matters for mediation and trial, including developing case themes, coordinating key tasks, and collaborating with experts as needed
• Communicate regularly with clients, opposing counsel, courts, and third-party vendors to advance cases efficiently
